What is The Great Deer?
The Great Deer is a more modern style point-n-click adventure game where you play as an intrepid explorer searching for an artefact of great value. Discover and travel to ancient and long forgotten temple. Journey into the labyrinth of rooms that makes up the temple, discover the secrets within, and uncover the dark truth behind a sinister ritual taking place within its walls.

Art and Aesthetic
The Great Deer has a hand drawn cartoon art style, with frame by frame animation. The game uses vector graphics to reach an infinite resolution, so the game will look crystal clear on all devices. The game also utilises a more flat digital art style during some portions to replicate the look of stained glass windows. This too is all vector, so the game looks great on any screen size!
UI
The Great Deer utilises a simple and clean UI design that both is easy to read, but also reflects the tone of the game. Use left, right, and down arrows on the edges of the screen to move around the temple. Use the inventory on the right of the screen to inspect and use items you find in the temple. Worried your inventory will fill up? Use the little arrow at the bottom to expand the inventory!
Gameplay And Puzzles
Discovering the secrets of the temple will not be so easy! Throughout the temple are many difficult puzzles that will withhold the way forward. With a wide variety of puzzles throughout the game, you’ll need to use your brain to find the clues and solve the puzzles to progress.
You’ll also need to explore the temple. Within are many rooms and secret passageways, that offer a non-linear experience, often with more than one way to get around the temple. All combined, this game offers around 2-5 hours of gameplay.
Story and Atmosphere
The temple of The Great Deer has many secrets within. With a well fleshed out backstory, this game offers a narrative filled with environmental storytelling and the opportunity to uncover the secrets of the ritual taking place inside the temple.
Soundtrack
The Great Deer has a beautiful original soundtrack composed by Aliel Hernandez and Andres Ciambotti.

Originally a $4.99 game that went free. I was able to solve some of the puzzles, but the logic behind them was kinda out there. Interactivity of some of the important parts of progression were inconsistent to the point I thought I couldn't actually interact with integral parts of the environment. I spent more time searching rooms for key type progression rather than actually trying to solve puzzles.2 found this helpful
The Great Deer is a short point-and-click adventure built around exploration, puzzles, hidden passages, and an increasingly sinister supernatural mystery. Developed and published by Dr. Puzzler, the game follows an adventurer who enters an ancient temple while searching for a valuable artifact. What initially seems like a straightforward treasure hunt soon becomes considerably more dangerous when evidence suggests that a dark ritual is underway. The inhabitants of the temple are attempting to awaken a demonic god, giving the protagonist a more urgent reason to explore the ruins beyond personal profit. Most of the experience takes place inside the temple, which functions as a large interconnected puzzle rather than simply a collection of unrelated rooms. Players move between different areas, investigate suspicious objects, discover secret passages, and gradually learn how different sections of the structure connect. There is a degree of non-linear exploration, allowing certain areas and puzzles to be approached in different orders. Really fun game. Glad to see more from this developer. My only annoyance is that a couple puzzles felt a bit under explained and difficult. Much longer and tougher than The Sink Gods and definitely worth the time. Took me about 2 hours.

To start, the game is free! 😲 I feel I should've paid at least $.99 cents for it, maybe even more. Even if it's a short one, it completely deserved and justifiable. Before jumping in, I wanted to get a sense of how long the gameplay would be, so I started looking at some (positive) reviews. I noticed many mentioned it had similarities to the Rusty Lake series. Rusty Lake is my favorite P+C series. This was a no brainer, playtime didn't matter. The reviews weren't wrong. It's in the same vein as Rusty Lake; very likely they were inspired by them. It's not quite imitating it, but I'd say- it could become its own style within the P+C genre (if it hasn't already and I just haven't noticed). Visually it has a similar art style but not quite the same. It's a hand-drawn surreal style yet smooth and polished. It includes many creative and enjoyable puzzles that vary in difficulty. It's overall a very fun and engaging puzzle game, but there are some bugs I noticed. 1. Some elements would still be visible during the ending scenes. 2. The buttons for the main menu became invisible after a while.
