■STORY
Kyoto, 1997. The capital of the Japanese Empire.
As the cherry blossoms fall in spring, Takamura Yui enters Yamayuri Girls' Surface Pilot Academy as a new cadet.
With the pride of a surface pilot in her heart, Yui trains daily with her fellow students.
But there's one student in particular that stands out to her above the rest... Yamashiro Kazusa.
Kazusa seems like everything that Yui wants to be, and Yui feels a mixture of sympathy and envy towards her.
And then, in 1998, the fateful day comes...
The BETA finally land on the Japanese mainland, advancing eastward with unstoppable force and eventually reaching the outskirts of Kyoto.
Yui and her companions are called to the battlefield.
What fate awaits these newly commissioned officers?

The story of a decades-long struggle to save mankind from destruction...
The BETA:
Beings of Extra-Terrestrial Origin and Adversaries of the Human Race. Unknown life forms first discovered on Mars in 1958. First contact with them was made on the moon in 1967, and by 2001, their unstoppable invasion of Earth had pushed humanity to the brink of extinction.
The world's nations attempted to fight back, each developing their own tactical surface fighters according to their own unique combat doctrine. But the BETA advance drove mankind from the Eurasian continent, and while the invasion is contained, for now, our attempts at containment are reaching their limits.
Can humanity escape from total and utter destruction?
The Tactical Surface Fighters (TSFs):
Humanoid weapons first used against the BETA in 1974.
Scientific advance has given mankind new ways to fight the BETA, and new TSFs are constantly being developed. As of 2001, the newest TSFs are the 3rd Generation Models.

The Imperial Capital Burns - Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse is a tightly focused, emotionally charged visual novel that serves as both a narrative prologue and a character study within the broader Muv-Luv universe. Developed by aNCHOR Inc. in collaboration with fuzz Inc. and published by aNCHOR Inc., the game is less concerned with branching gameplay systems or mechanical complexity and far more invested in depicting a pivotal moment in the franchise’s timeline. It aims to contextualize later events by showing how ideals, rivalries, and trauma are forged under the pressure of impending catastrophe. The story is set in late-1990s Japan, before the full collapse of stability caused by the alien BETA invasion, and follows Takamura Yui during her early days as a Tactical Surface Fighter cadet. At first, the narrative leans into relatively grounded themes: ambition, competition, pride, and the social friction of elite military training. Yui is portrayed as earnest and driven, yet emotionally rigid, and much of the early portion of the story revolves around her clashing with more naturally gifted peers, particularly Yamashiro Kazusa. The Imperial Capital Burns is a prequel story to Muv-Luv Total Eclipse however, it is a much more enjoyable experience. The story of this VN covers the first 2 episodes of the Total Eclipse anime and stretches that 40 minutes of content to around 6 hours of reading. Unlike the massive stretching done to the main Total Eclipse VN it is not much of a problem here. The time is filled with new scenes that develop the characters and while the broad strokes of the anime's story are followed, the individual scenes are often very different. I recommend this to readers who want more Muv-Luv lore or if you just love Yui.
Absolute vapid trash of a visual novel. I dont know who writes now this garbage but for sure is not the same person who wrote the trilogy. No redeemable quality , no interesting plot , no lore reveal , nothing , just hollow boring prose made for a quick cash . Avoid !
