The Ninth Forset is one of literally thousands of creatively bankrupt asset flips infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This asset flip is particularly interesting because it's a love letter from a simp to the Vtuber imaginary girlfriend e-girl he's simping over. Yeah if that didn't make you throw up in your mouth a little, you're made of sterner stuff. Creepy, isn't it? Anyway this is weaponised cringe, basically you negotiate a short path of flipped assets so the developer can get invited to a VTubers birthday party. For those of you who don't know, a VTuber is when middle aged balding men pretend to be little anime girls on Youtube/Twitch streams. Noah, get the boat. The Ninth Forset is a really strange little horror adventure, and I liked the idea behind it almost immediately. I play as Kuiri Lulu, who wakes up in a foggy forest after receiving a mysterious invitation and has to find the correct path to reach her birthday party. I liked how the cheerful birthday setup clashes with the unsettling forest because it creates a weird sense that something is wrong from the beginning. The gameplay is mainly about walking through the forest and paying attention to what I encounter. The game takes inspiration from Exit 8, so recognizing unusual events and anomalies is an important part of making progress. I enjoyed that because it makes me look more carefully at the environment instead of simply following a straight route without thinking. There is also a small shooting element that gives the game a little more interaction than a normal walking simulator. When I encounter an anomaly, I can use a handgun to deal with it, while ordinary sections can simply be passed through.
