The Silence After

a very unique game with good game play and a very unique art style

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This game is honestly something special. I’ve played a lot of horror games, but The Silence After feels genuinely different. The whole idea of playing as a blind survivor and using sound as color to understand and navigate the world is incredibly unique, and it creates an atmosphere that I haven’t really experienced in another game. It’s not just horror for the sake of throwing jumpscares at you either. The atmosphere, the sound design, the way you perceive the environment, and the feeling of being completely vulnerable all work together really well. It feels like the developers had an actual vision for what they wanted this game to be, and it absolutely shows. My only real complaint is that it’s **way too short**. I finished it wanting more, which is probably the best and worst thing I can say about it. I genuinely wish there was another few hours to explore this world and experience more of what it has to offer. Definitely a 5/5 from me. If you want something different from the usual horror formula, I strongly recommend giving this a try.

It was an alright ~20 minute experience. I enjoyed the visuals the most, which I think is a good thing as that's what the game seems to be focusing on. Enemies looked a little silly, but sneaking around them was fun. The story was interesting and the final visual was nice. Overall, it's a free game so can't complain.

30 ish minute game that barely plays on its biggest selling point(spatial audio and echolocation) with it's little runtime it tries to tell a story that seems to be about a dying of a star(?). So little time is given to warm up to relate to the MC or the girl on the radio that i couldnt care for either of them, and the poor optimization makes me laugh every time i look away from the action and my fps spike from 30~ to 144. 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (2.30 GHz) 16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable) And a 3050 rtx I really dont know how these games manage to tank my fps more than Minecraft with a billion mods but apperantly these developers know something i don't.

Really cool visual mechanics, but feels more like a proof of concept more than anything. I feel it would have done better if it was more focused on ambient horror instead of having monsters or at the very least having the monster ai be a bit better. I was immediately taken out of the experience as soon as I realized I could just throw bricks at the monsters and they did nothing. I just walked past them too. The hanging creatures were decent if you purposefully destroyed the egg sacs. I also feel like the game underutilizes the echolocation mechanic. It's basically just to be able to see, but that's really it. I would praise it for the fact that to see where you are going requires you to make noise with the downside that making noise attracts the monsters, but it's so pitifully easy to avoid the monsters that it just leaves the mechanic feeling more like a nuisance then anything. Level design was good not to linear and not labyrinthian either. Sounds were good as well. In the end it's good little ambient artistic experience ruined by mediocre ai; The game is made by film school students so I won't really hold that against it, presumably ai not being their forte.
