The Thing: Tower Defense

This game has so much potential which is why I get so frustrated with it at times. Certain stages send ridiculously powerful units at you in the first few rounds while simultaneously starting you with barely any gold to buy units and you have no choice but to buy items to beat the stage. You shouldn't have to buy consumables in a tower defense game unless you're just bad, but it's an absolute requirement on certain stages. The concept of having these little units that spawn from barracks instead of towers is a neat concept and this game could be perfect if there was just a little more attention paid to the actual playability of the game.

Fine game with a few problems here and there. I think it is more or less worth the price.

I won't recommend this game unless it is free. The whole game UI is terrible. It seems they just move a game from touch screen to PC. All of controls are fit for a touchscreen but not a computer with mouse. For example, you need to click twice if you want to buy or update a unit, because the 1st click just showing information. The balance is terrible. Warriors, no matter Najas or Hammers, are totally trash due to many enemies that counter melee-barracking units, including permanent-frozen, instant kill, or just high attack. Mages can handle 99% work that originally should done by warriors. Mages can summon melee-barracking beasts, heal nearby units, and slow enemies down. The design of heroes are ridiculous. Necromancer's ultimate ability can raise skeletons when there are enemies dead nearby, but these skeletons will prevent enemies from entering that totem's area! Ginny can regrow his mana 4x faster, but all his ability cost 4x mana! Enemies stunned by Red's rock spikes are actually "isolated" because nobody will try to attack them, so they are some sorts of "invincible" during stunning. great game from my childhood and still one of hardest tower defense game ever because nearly everything is hard

I cannot recommend this, mainly due to difficulty being all over the place. When you hit the biggest difficulty spike somewhere halfway through the game, you can't progress until you grind out more passives and/or hero levels. You can modify your save file to bypass the grind, but that obviously shouldn't be required and the fact that I was tempted to is a sign of bad game design.
