"The Twilight Witch" is an amazing exercise in RPG development. By which I mean an amateur developer worked out how to use something other than RPG Maker to dump a garbage JRPG onto Steam along with a little high school anime club dropout fanfiction... and yet, somehow, managed to come up with something even worse than an RPG Maker asset flip. I don't know if this is a student project, or some court ordered punishment or something, but the quality here is exceedingly low. The bad graphics match the sloppy and incoherent RPG design perfectly, so at least there's symmetry. And, I suppose some kudos to the developer for not flipping assets... but at the same time, using MS-Paint to create game assets is probably even worse. Have people considered, if they can't create assets of quality, and flipping assets from a store is even worse, maybe they're just in the wrong industry? Sometimes it's good for there to be barriers to entry for some things. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it …

The Twilight Witch is a charming, pocket-sized 2D pixel-art Action RPG that serves as a neat 30-minute fantasy adventure. You play as Mael, a young man who leaves his ruined home of New Larton to track down a mysterious hooded aggressor and warn the wider world of the impending danger.Spending exactly half an hour inside the game is the perfect amount of time to experience everything it has to offer. The presentation relies on nice retro pixel art, and the gameplay smoothly blends top-down exploration with fast-paced, bullet-hell style magical combat encounters that keep you on your toes. However, the rough student-project nature shows itself quickly through several technical flaws. The dynamic combat box colliders during the initial training sequences can be quite inaccurate, audio volume settings annoying reset back to default values upon every application launch, and pushing your speed statistics too far can accidentally cause your character model to permanently clip straight into castle walls.Despite being highly linear and mechanically brief, it works well as a short, cohesive narrative demonstration. For a completely free indie download that doesn't bloat your active profile …

The Twilight Witch, developed and published by Tyoumage, is a free-to-play 2D pixel art action RPG that blends classic top-down exploration with fast-paced magical combat. Framed within a familiar but earnest fantasy narrative, the game follows Mael, a young villager whose quiet life in New Larton is abruptly shattered by the arrival of a mysterious hooded figure. The destruction of his home and the fall of its guardian set the stage for a journey that moves beyond simple revenge or rescue, gradually unfolding into a broader struggle involving magic, corruption, and the balance of light and darkness. While the story leans into recognizable fantasy tropes, it provides enough emotional grounding to motivate the player’s progression through the world. Gameplay forms the heart of The Twilight Witch, and it is here that the game distinguishes itself most clearly. Combat unfolds in real time and often adopts a rhythm reminiscent of light bullet-hell encounters. Enemies attack in patterns that require attentive movement, dodging, and strategic positioning rather than simple button mashing. Mael has access to multiple magical styles, each offering distinct abilities that shape his approac…

A great first game! The story is very good and I enjoyed myself while playing this game. I wished there was more to the story tho.

Just to preface this review, I know the creator of the game, so will try to take personal bias out of the equation and judge this solely on the game itself. I'll start by saying that this of course is someones first game, so of course there are going to be some rough edges, the feedback here is meant to give a constructive assessment of what might work next time, or what didn't work in this. Making a game is obviously a learning experience and the more games a person makes, the more polished each game becomes. For a first go, it's a pretty solid effort! There are things I would watch out for in the future, but overall not a bad first go :D Something that I have spoken to the creator about is making save points easier to differentiate from the background, at least to start, once you notice them they are easy to find, but initially I was getting killed and being sent quite far back, because I didn't realise that the object to save could be interacted with. The game takes inspiration it seems from Bullet Hell games and I feel like this could have been leaned into a lot more, some encounters are too easily cheesed, but when the combat clicks and you are dodging left, right and cent…
