Very impressive for a budget game. If you're a fan of the genre, you'll like this one. While it might not break any new ground, it does the job as nicely as any other game of it's type. There are multiple characters, and instead of your standard meta progression, each individual character has their own upgrade tree. The thing that sets this one apart is the atmosphere. It's more on the light-hearted end of things, and cute obviously, it's a nice change of pace from dark and grim. For the 2 dollars or so that I paid for this game, I will be getting a MASSIVE return in regards to the "dollars spent to hours of gameplay" ratio. There are almost 200 achievements. This is definitely one of those times that I am super glad that I took the leap and spent the money. Even at full price, you're getting a good deal.2 found this helpful
Note: game has not been updated since december 2024 and developers have not posted. this indicates to me that the game should be evaluated "as is," and this review emerges from that assumption. Twilight Survivors occupies an interesting place on the difficulty curve, as from the beginning it appears to be incredibly simple but it does develop nicely to a strong 'higher' difficulty near the end. The controls are more or less what you would expect in the genre, but some of the game-unique bindings are in locations I found odd--nothing I couldn't get used to. While the midgame space for build variation is pleasingly flexible, I found that the later I progressed, the more I had 'mandatory' skills and weapons for builds, and the variety became much subtler, if any remained at all. Part of this is due likely to my own playtime--This review is written post-completion, but only just. I haven't found out if there's a skill gap I can traverse to try something slightly wackier, and don't know that I will be in a hurry to do so as I have plenty other games to play... Holy smokes batman this game is amazeing!
Gameplay-wise, its just another survivors game with nothing special. What sells it is how flashy it is and the cute anime art style.
