"Thereafter" is a poorly made Unreal kitbash where you control a cat and do some adventuring stuff with a bit of badly written visual novel/ebook dialogue stapled on. Remember the old adage, "show, don't tell?". Someone should remind amateur developers of that one. Anyway, the game mostly works, but it lacks polish, quality, and decent narrative, leaving this with no real reason for anyone to play it. Which is exactly how this panned out, it was a hard fail on Steam Direct. The graphics aren't great, low quality assets, janky visuals and no polish. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in thi…

Cat game. Not really my thing, but I do think the atmosphere is nice and running around as the cat is satisfying.

the cat-controls are, for the most part, refreshingly responsive and 'snappy' for lack of a better adjective. Unfortunately, the cat is not really able to jump...instead it can kind of jankily scamper up pre-ordained surfaces (moderately high ledges and platforms). i enjoyed the environments and the level-design (evokes the gaming community's recent obsession with liminal spaces to great effect). game froze shortly after the completion of chapter 1. Luckily i was able to recover most of my progress with the auto-save feature. It was odd to have no sound or music after chapter 1 all of that being said, if you're here you're probably a cat-enthusiast who is more than happy to give a developer plenty of leeway with regards to quality as long as their product features (a) cat/s. Well, it does feature a cat and said cat does pull at one's heart strings from time to time but i lost interest half-way through the third chapter. Its free but i'm not sure its worth my time. certainly not any more of it.
