About Thy Kingdom Crumble

Ascend the crumbling ruins of a fallen kingdom by jumping, swinging, shooting, and teleporting your way through enemies and obstacles. New knowledge and abilities will aid you on your increasingly challenging skyward journey. It's like a reverse Downwell or a reverse-inverted finite Doodle Jump.

A single game is quick and simple: reach the sun with as much silver as possible. Silver represents both currency and score so purchasing useful power-ups must be balanced with the long term goal of a respectable grade. Death will start you back at the beginning with nothing.

The controls in Thy Kingdom Crumble are a little different than your usual platformer. Left clicking will have you jump towards the cursor and a right click activates any equipped abilities.

The haunting soundtrack was composed by Gisula.

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's unique concept, tight controls, satisfying climbing mechanics, and charming art and music style that blends Avalanche with Downwell-like gameplay. However, the final boss encounter is widely criticized as poorly designed—particularly the spike hazards above the boss and the tedious bouncing mechanics required to damage it, which frustrates an otherwise enjoyable experience.

It's basically the classic flash game "Avalanche" but so much more. Climb a neverending stream of falling blocks through 4 areas to reach a boss, with various power ups and a hidden new game plus mode to provide a good challenge. It's a simple concept but is unique and controls really well. Quite satisfying to fly through the game after some practice too. If I could describe it with other games I'd say its something like Avalanche meets Downwell (but Upwell in this case)

A neat concept that's fairly well done, save for the boss of the game being complete garbage - mostly due to the fact that there are spikes above him and you're typically required to jump off him to hurt him, and it takes a rather long time. The platforming upwards is fun, art and music are nice. Overall recommended.

Hold mouse to jump, wasd to walk around, wall jump, bounce on enemies, buy some upgrades, get to the top. It takes 6 or 7 minutes to casually beat the game. It's cheap, and it plays exactly like it looks. Somewhat fun to move and go fast. So why am I not recommending it? It's actually really simple: the final boss room is a mess. The boss sits atop a throne, in a 15 second long room that you need to climb. To damage the boss, you need to jump on it, and if your bounce is a little too high, you take damage on a few spikes (annoying, but if you have more than 1 hp, you can just faceplant into them to destroy them). It's a baffling design decision, but at least you can somewhat counteract it. If you get to the boss room with just one health, I don't know. Bouncing correctly requires an amount of precision not demanded anywhere else in the game, not even in new game plus. Then the boss retaliates, usually making you go all the way down to the bottom of the room, and repeat it from the beginning. It takes 5 (I think) hits to kill the boss, and it's completely mind numbing. I managed to die more than once because I needed to squeeze out a few more hits in the same cycle to short…

Short but well tailored. Untypical gameplay and visuals makes for a unique experience.

I found the jump mechanics of this game confusing and counterintuitive. I wish you could use a controller.
