Quite a shallow narrative experience, but it does have atmosphere due to its unusual graphics and wonderful soundtrack, but game play is repetitive and boring.
Kai is an aspiring artist and loves to paint. He exhibits paintings in the hope of being discovered, and his dream is to become a full-time painter and make a decent living. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always hand us our dreams on a plate, and life just gets in the way. Wandering Duelist is a narrative-based fetch quest game, that teaches us that disappointment and choices, make us who we are today. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, and although I didn’t hate it, I didn’t really love it either. The first thing that strikes you is the unusual view point. Flat Earthers won’t like this at all, as Kai circumvents the 360-degree circumference of the to…
For other game reviews, please follow us at What The Game?
Wandering Duelist is a narrative driven adventure game where you play Kai, a person who puts their dreams on hiatus due to the normal trappings of life where one trades one’s happiness for a stable profession that pays well enough. Your task is to do a number of quests throughout the game for characters on the basis and back drop of a christmas party for the company you work for. As with holding any social event it brings along stress and circumstances where things could go wrong and are at the mercy of proper planning of the ones in charge as the legwork is done at their behest. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2888538205
Small World
The world itself in Wandering Duelist is small and when doing the missions, you’ll pass through or see the same streets so you’ll easily remember the layout of the streets and buildings. Though this is easily remembered, the crowd in the streets changes the moment you start a mission. The number of NPCs moving about increases to which also increases the dangers you’d have to avoid. "Wandering Duelist" feels more like a student project than a professionally developed game, but the previous price tag on this does indicate it was intended once as a for-profit product. Anyway, it's an unusual beast indeed, a bit of action and a bit of adventuring around an almost, but not quite charming representation of a European town... with a huge twist. The entire map is a smallish sphere with the town resting on top of it. Unfortunately that gimmick, while mildly interesting, wasn't enough to turn this into a raging success. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $3 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even tho…

Bought it before it was free, but even then, I'd recommend it. Now that it's free, there's no reason not to get it and play it. It's simple in its gameplay, but well executed in its challenging gameplay and visual direction. Not the most polished or smoothest controls, but it gets the job done.

I love Wandering Duelist's spherical world idea, and the game has a sweet story and really lovely background music. Gameplay is only "go to a,b,c in x time without dying and return" though - would love to see more variety in mechanics but it's a nice little time killer. Wandering Duelist is an errand running-style game. Has a nice little romantic story, some lovely French polka, and a small but wonderfully detailed world. Could benefit from more variety in gameplay. Great game. You can tell that the author put a lot of time into characterization and map design. Can be finished in a few hours.
