Games like Hades to play next
Hades set a high bar for the action roguelike: snappy combat, meaningful build choices, likeable characters and a run you never quite want to end. These three games deliver that same moreish, easy-to-start hard-to-stop loop from different angles, and each rewards mastery and experimentation in its own satisfying way.
- Dead Cells is the closest match, a lightning-fast roguevania where fluid melee combat, constant weapon experimentation and permadeath make every attempt feel fresh. Each death teaches you something and permanently unlocks a little more, and the pace is every bit as electric as Hades. If that combat flow hooked you, this is essential.
- Risk of Rain 2 moves the formula into third-person 3D and truly shines in co-op, stacking wild item synergies as the difficulty relentlessly climbs the longer you survive. Snowballing from fragile underdog to screen-clearing juggernaut is a genuine thrill, and no two runs ever play out quite the same.
- Grim Dawn is less roguelike and more classic action-RPG, but its deep dual-class builds, moreish loot hunt and satisfying, weighty combat scratch the same itch for endlessly tuning a character and mowing down hordes for hours on end. There's a staggering amount to theorycraft here.
