About Dead Cells
Dead Cells is a roguelike action-platformer where you battle through an ever-shifting castle as an immortal soul possessing different bodies, losing your host each time you die but keeping permanent progression like unlocked paths and new weapons. Tough-as-nails 2D combat with responsive controls and zero checkpoints demands you master the combat system and memorize enemy patterns to survive brutal runs and reach the final boss.
Dead Cells puts you in control of a failed alchemic experiment trying to figure out what's happening on a sprawling, ever-changing and seemingly cursed Island. Immortal but crippled, your last resort is to take over bodies in order to move, explore… and fight.
While you may well be immortal, the corpses you possess are not. Each time your host is destroyed, you will be sent back to the dungeon to find yourself a new one and start again...
Experience a Roguevania, mixing an interconnected world, branching paths and unlockable skills with the constant adrenaline-pumping threat of permadeath. No checkpoints. You either vanquish the final boss in one go or you try again. However, you keep some of your progress for successive runs new paths you’ve unlocked, access to new levels, mutations, abilities and weapons.
Tough but fair combat, responsive controls, challenging foes, and of course, the emergency panic roll to get you out of trouble make for a visceral and cathartic action game.DLC & expansions

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Dead Cells is widely praised for its engaging combat, beautiful art style, and addictive gameplay that keeps players coming back despite its high difficulty. However, some players find the roguelike progression system frustrating, feeling that unlocks don't provide meaningful progress and that success depends too heavily on luck rather than skill.
I recently got money to buy steam games, and before that, i didnt play much games, im usually too bored to, no matter how good most games end up being I always feel like I have to force myself to play it, like a chore.(its obvious when looking at the games i have with their playtime lol) But deadcells... Absolute gamechanger, love at first playtrough, never in my life have I played a game that im ACTUALLY really excited to play. Usually i consider myself someone whop hates high difficulty games, so at first i was skeptical, but lord, best purchase of my life I even go the DLCs i regret nothing. This game feels honestly good to play, and i even consider it a comfort game, the art in this game is absolutely beautiful and there SO much content. I HIGHLY recommend deadcells and its DLCs (also the beheaded and the fisherman are lowkey bad)

i love this game and i stopped playing it for like 2 years and used stuff to get everything cause i was a dumbass and it messed up my achievements so im resetting lol
fun.
This is one of the only games I've ever played where it felt like my accomplishments or effort meant nothing. Every time. You will unlock lots of "cool" weapons, get some achievements here and there, but the overall scummy nature of the game will dilute any sense of accomplishment you can feel outside of your insane luck you strike from time to time. If you aren't a lucky person, this game isn't for you.
I'm going to be honest, this is one of the best roguelike/lites i've ever played. peak combat and peak environmental storytelling. if you're debating it, get it, you'll love it
