  • Exciting gameplay with familiar RPG elements – collect items, complete quests, engage in battles!
  • Earn experience points and level up your characters.
  • Revise completed lessons to brush up on your knowledge.
  • In-game quizzes to test what you’re learning.

Summary: A good, fun way to learn hiragana (the basic writing system for Japanese), but you can outgrow it quickly. This game was my first step in studying Japanese, and early on it was very helpful and quite effective. However, as time went on, it wore on me, and I ended up getting hiragana flashcards, which were much more effective. I ended up not finishing the game, however it gave me a good foundation once I started using the flashcards. The gameplay it typical of JRPGs, particularly the classic Final Fantasy games. You fight battles with kana, where in order to defeat the enemies you must use attacks that pair the romaji (alphabet) with the hiragana character. It is not a particularly difficult game as an RPG, the challenge is in learning the characters. However, it starts to feel very grindy after a point, which is more wearisome than a typical RPG. The game includes some extras (which may be DLC, I do not recall) which are quite helpful, including a printable reference book which I used extensively as I studied. So in my experience, this game was a good start for study, but only to get my foot in the door. It is only good for learning hiragana and some vocab…

Great for learning hiragana, its not a great game but good enough to keep you going and learn the characters. I recommend using the kana-app in parallel or write everything on to a paper. Around 13 hours of content.

ok so I start the game. Game goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too faast. like reaaaally fast. no matter what I do even changing my Hz to 60. I download cheat engine to enable speed hack. something happens. now game is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to slow. I dont understand this game. the idea is good and simple but I cannot enjoy the game because it speed.

This is a great way to practice your Hiragana, and a good source to practice some vocabulary. It was also cute and fun ~

This is a great resource for learning hiragana (in addition to using other resources). I think the biggest criticisms for the game (in the context of a study tool) are: 1) The enemy groupings are preset. I had an instance where I fought three enemies. In the very next battle, those same three enemies appeared. It didn't take much thought to just choose the correct answers. And this sort of thing happened a fair bit (maybe not always the subsequent battle, but definitely the same groupings within an area). 2) The battles did become quite monotonous since there was no variation really. The turn order was always the same, the enemies barely did damage (outside of the beginning of the game), and if one of my fighters defeated an enemy in one blow (because it usually took two), then the second fighter was just left to hit a wrong answer by default. However, those are minute complaints within the grand scheme of things. This was primarily a fun and motivating way for me to learn hiragana. I found it effective! I do recommend it as a study tool as opposed to just a casual game to pick up and play.
