About Street Heat

Surrender your senses to the ultimate top-down racing experience! Street Heat is an action-packed four-player party-piece enhanced by vibrant neon-noir visuals and a masterful ’80s soundtrack. Go bumper-to-bumper with three other racers as you screech around corners, hurtle over deadly jumps and floor it across busy train tracks in the race for the checkered flag. Pick your car and livery of choice and get racing against friends, strangers or AI within seconds. But beware: spin off the track’s edge or get obliterated by the trains and your race is over until the next round!

Street Heat is a console ported micro-racer game, basically a ripoff of the arcade classic Super Sprint (copyright Atari, 1986). Race against bots or co-op on low poly maps (the maps are stylised to try disguise the low poly console assets). There's very little to this game, it's shallow, uninspired, and 100% derivative. It offers nothing that games decades old don't already provide with better quality. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be f…

I was on the lookout for something similar to good, old GeneRally and this sort of fitted the bill, at least from the outside. Contrary to some I beg to differ - it is not an unfinished game. Yes, it left early access all of a sudden after a long period of no updates but calling it unfinished is like calling your down syndrome brother an incomplete human being. Street Heat is a bare bones game. It is a sum of absolute minimum, of what is needed to complete a game. There are no difficulty modes, you're not getting more than 4 cars and about 6 or 7 short tracks. There's only one tournament to play (one set of races, first to 20 points wins), so not a lot and for full asking price this is frankly a sad little racing joke. And whoever on earth decided to call this soundtrack "masterful" clearly had no clue whatsoever. This is synthwave at its very basic, with not a single track making a mark, and what's worse - it's hard to even notice it in-game. Very bland. It certainly has the artstyle going for it: monochromatic surroundings with only neon banners giving them a touch of colour. In contrast to bright cars and tracks this actually works pretty well. The drift based racin…

Street Heat is a top-down arcade racing game that trades realistic driving for drifting, collisions, dangerous obstacles, and the kind of unpredictable competition that works especially well with a group of friends. Developed by Astalo Games and published by PQube, it leans heavily into a neon-drenched retro atmosphere inspired by the 1980s. Instead of overwhelming the player with vehicle tuning or complicated racing systems, the game focuses on immediately understandable action where staying on the track can be just as important as reaching the finish line first. Driving is intentionally loose and energetic. Cars slide readily around corners, so learning how to control a drift is central to maintaining speed. The handling is accessible enough for newcomers to start racing quickly, but there is still satisfaction in discovering how early to initiate a turn and how aggressively to accelerate out of it. Because the action is viewed from above, players can usually see upcoming corners and nearby competitors, yet the speed of the races means there is rarely much time to plan. A seemingly comfortable lead can disappear after one badly timed turn. The tracks make that danger considerab…

It's a really fun game with friends and nothing to take too seriously. Fun drift mechanics and a simple game that is good for 2 - 3 game in a row before switching to something else.
Please consider following my Curation page. I cover a wide range of genres both paid and unpaid, providing unbiased opinions as well as regular giveaway events.

Unfinished, Buggy
Loaded the game, got struck by a train, and lost because you can't respawn. If you crash and burn, you're out of the race, which isn't particularly exciting. When the AI crashed into a wall at the start of the race, they all respawned on top of each other, stacking the revving and crashing sound effects, which was loud. Could not finish the race because they needed to finish it as well. Playing with other players might be better, but there isn't any content here really.
