About Terroir

Terroir is a 3D tile-based tycoon game where you manage your very own vineyard. In Terroir, you grow a variety of different grape varietals, craft your wine, and expand and manage your Estate. You'll also have to deal with factors such as weather and random events, which can either make or break your business.

Features

Some of the game's features and mechanics include:
  • Choose from a selection of different grape varieties, each with their own demands.
  • Dynamic weather system reflecting the unpredictability of real world climate.
  • Each complete playthrough lasts 60 in-game years, but Players can continue playing without contributing to their final score.
  • Craft wine through the game's 4 winemaking processes: Crushing, Fermentation, Pressing and Ageing. Each type of grape needs to be crafted a certain way to achieve the best results, so you'll have to learn and master each one.
  • Start out with a single planting tile, then expand your Estate to up to 33 tiles, using 6 different tile types. Some tiles affect the ones around it, so placement is key.
  • Customize your estate with ambient items.
  • CHANCE & CIRCUMSTANCE: Terroir's random event and mission system. Players can open the Mystery Box and choose between CHANCE (a random event that could either have a positive or undesirable outcome) or CIRCUMSTANCE (a mission that a Player completes for rewards, or gets penalized for failing).
  • Join Wine Awards for a chance to earn bonuses to your wine's value and your Estate's renown.
  • Clean, minimalist design and gorgeous low-poly 3D models.
  • Original soundtrack composed and performed by Singapore's CLARQuinet ensemble.

Put on your field gloves, grab a pair of pruning shears and build your Chateau literally from the ground up. Good luck, and cheers!

Twenty hours in this game. Twenty hours of watching my careful plans get CRUSHED by an unfair random weather generator. I NEVER went past year three without going bankrupt. It is my contention that there has never been a player, in the history of this game, ever play an extended career without running into the savage and unfair RNG. Buyer beware. I have come back to it many times, played for a couple of hours, and gotten crushed. Again. And again, and again. And again. Save yourself the anger and frustration, and look elsewhere.

The frustration was so bad that I coded this tool to calculate the best ways to product 5 star wine. As a designer and software tester, I have to be honest: Terroir has a long way to go before it feels market-ready. The user experience is rough from the start. The cursor is frustrating to use, imprecise, sluggish, and extremely unpleasant. This really needs to be addressed by the developers as a priority. The tutorial system is another pain point. It’s intrusive and difficult to disable, making the early gameplay more irritating than helpful. On top of that, many game elements go unexplained, and the lack of tooltips makes learning the mechanics a guessing game rather than an engaging experience. Overall, the game feels incomplete. The visuals are bland and well below the standard I’d expect from a title themed around winemaking, a subject that should be rich, atmospheric, and visually appealing. Instead, the presentation falls flat. There are also a number of options shown in the UI that don’t seem to function or serve any purpose, adding to the feeling of an unfinished product. In its current state, Terroir feels like an unpolished concept rather than a fully realized game. W…

Do not buy. This game is broken in its current state. Even on "easy" mode the upkeep costs are MUCH higher than they should be, and it's impossible with market saturation to make enough money to keep playing. I'm not even going to go into the winemaking inaccuracies because that doesn't really matter. I got to year 2050 before uninstalling. I hate this game so, so much.

I restarted playing this and I really enjoy this game. You need to just read the game manual and learn the little tricks and it is very fun game but never easy in my opinion. So many variables that can throw your wine off if you are aiming for 5 stars. Also check the manuals that other players have shared over here and your life will be easier.

Winemarkers are not happy and the game loop is only very mildly interesting. Its an interesting concept, and with a complete rethink, some expert knowladge, and more variety there is a great game somewhere here. Just not now. Multi grape variety wines seems like a basic feature that would improve this massively.

Great game loop, more than worth the price asked
