About Loop8: Summer of Gods

Your choices shape the world in this coming-of-age RPG set in 1980s rural Japan.

Step into the life of Nini, a newly earthbound teen who arrives in the quaint Japanese town of Ashihara in August 1983. Explore the town, befriend its people, and face off against the Kegai in turn-based battles where the outcomes depend on the relationships you’ve built and the decisions you’ve made. Use Nini’s special connection to the gods to reset the world, with each loop allowing Nini and his allies to relive the 8th month over and over until they get it right...or the Kegai overcome them entirely.

With one month until the world ends, how will you spend each day?

Live an Ordinary Life, Fight Extraordinary Enemies
Build bonds with Ashihara's residents while protecting the town from the ever-present threat of the Kegai, repeating the cycle to uncover how your everyday actions impact your battles in the Underworld, and vice versa.

A Picturesque View of Rural Japan
Your adventure takes place in a nostalgic and beautifully recreated snapshot of a rural Japanese townscape. Head downtown to recharge at a local restaurant, or hang out at the shops to strengthen your bonds with other characters.

Relive the Past to Alter the Future
Though the deadline for humanity's extinction draws ever closer, Ashihara's fate remains in your hands. Repeatedly return to the start of August, alter your actions, and see how they turn the tides of destiny across multiple endings.

Choices That Can Change the World
Loop8’s emotion-driven AI system responds to every action you take and decision you make. Characters’ emotions and stories will vary greatly based on your choices, making each playthrough wholly unique.
“I got it from good source, say your prayers and goodbyes The world is gonna end tonight~ 🎶” ~School is Cool
Japan. Thanks to being a closed country for quite some time, it's known for doing things differently. That's exactly why its culture is so popular. This game, though? Well, it's very, very Japanese, but the thing is, it actually does try to be more different than usual. I mean, let's just admit it, lots and lots of Japanese games feel exactly the same nowadays. Personally, I can't even tell the difference between, say, Operation Abyss and DEMON GAZE. Compile Heart keeps producing games that look and feel identical, Nippon Ichi is known for that, KOEI TECMO's Atelier series is, like, a never-ending thing too... Like that famous song says, “People buy, money flows, it just works.” Now, Loop8? Like I said, it tries to be different. Unfortunately. The game follows the liminal spaces concept. The one you can see in, say, the Severance show on Apple TV+ and Kane Pixels' Backrooms. First, you're supposed to go through the “normal” world and interact with people. And then, y…

For a game with time travel that requires you to loop multiple times, the game needed proper skip dialogue options, there is a fast forward but it is still slow, you can skip some cutscene but not ALL of them. Going through the same dialogue over and over is tiring. Also, the player character moves so damn slow. He does a slow jog sort of animation that feels as if it's running at 15fps. It feels like it takes forever to get to point A to point B. I have played and enjoyed mediocre games before, but in this game it's the lack of QOL and some strange in game decisions that really make a mediocre game feel like and awful experience, it feels like torture. Why the devs could not go back and patch in some QOL after launch, I have no idea. It seems they gave up before they even began. The game has very nice art and some good music but all of that is wasted.

Loop8: Summer of Gods is a coming-of-age JRPG that blends slice-of-life daily routines with supernatural battles, set in a nostalgic 1980s rural town called Ashihara. The story follows Nini, a boy with a unique spiritual ability who arrives from a failed space colony to spend the summer on Earth. His task is to form bonds with the people around him while confronting demonic beings known as the Kegai. The narrative relies heavily on themes of memory, regret, and emotional connection, giving the game a reflective tone. Daily life forms the foundation of the experience. Players spend their days managing relationships, attending activities, and interacting with townspeople. Every choice affects character emotions, which in turn influence the difficulty and outcome of battles. The social system is central to the game’s identity, acting as both story delivery and mechanical progression. While the idea is strong, the execution can feel restrictive due to repeated dialogue and limited activity variety. Combat takes place in a separate “Kegai realm,” where emotional strength translates into combat effectiveness. Encounters are turn-based and revolve around morale, character mood, and inte…

It's alright game, When I first got into it, I thought i was going combat right off the bat but it's more like a visual novel with combat. and the combat isn't really challenging so it's easy to get into even on weekly breaks. https://youtube.com/live/nhMgxjMpCEY?feature=share

Can't bring myself to recommend this game when it's listed as an RPG but due to being run by AI this instead becomes mostly a sandbox with jumpy difficulty as the AI learns you play style. Conversation progression makes no sense due to AI. There is some aspect of a plot that is already set up within the first hour of the game but the AI will likely spoil what I would assume is end game content or content that is showcased later. Story concept is great, the premise of the game is solid. The use of AI however, completely ruined the gameplay for an RPG. If the developer wants to use AI driven story then don't label the game as an RPG. Label it as a sandbox game. While I am mostly against the use of AI I try to look past that when games utilize AI to see how it was utilized. This game unfortunately had AI replace core aspects of the game.
