Quadrilateral Cowboy

Interesting decal comedy style isn't enough to keep this game enticing. Barren saccharine hacking imsim that is effectively a sneaky timing puzzle. No grit or edge or flawed personality outlook, not much human emotion at all. Thank heavens the ingame terminal has auto complete and recent command memory + shortcuts. Avoids the age old bruality workaround of most 'stealth' games by completely preventing any sort of violence, no human enemies. Inconsistent and confusing use of leftclick and rightclick that differs between cyberdeck and any other placeable. Problem with this decision is that the human feeling of threat is completely abstracted out, nothing feels tense or motivating or stirs any instinctual survival. Biggest mistake is the choice or lack thereof of suitable music throughout the entire game.

It is a cute little heist game. And while it starts with having you execute code to enable you to pull off your heists, it quickly moves away from that to new methods that aren't as fun or engaging in my opinion. The game is also terribly short. I completed it in 4 hours and I went around exploring in levels and redoing a few levels to get a faster time. Maybe get it on a sale when it is only a few dollars. But I feel the $10 I spent were not at all worth it.

Blendo games has been on my radar for a long time as a quality developer that is capable of making a meaningful and fun game despite lower-tier graphics. I played one of Blendos previous titles: Atom Zombie Smasher many years ago and it immediately struck me as an exceptional game which looked rudimentary initially but had exceptional depth and replay value years later. I picked up Quadrilateral Cowboy when I saw it on sale mostly due to my positive experience with Atom, and also because of the well made trailer, interesting premise, and concise visual design. The full game was completed within 4-5 hours of gameplay, which is a bit short for my liking but I got a deal on the title during a sale so I believe it was worth every penny spent. I absolutely loved the setting and storytelling put forth by Blendo in this game, there is no spoken dialogue or subtitles, yet the story can be understood clearly via situational storytelling and the world in which it takes place is beautifully crafted despite having a low-poly style.
