I first played this game on 486-DX2/80 computer back in the '90s. I just finished the remake after some 30 years since the original and I loved it. It's as close to the original game as possible with just a few minor changes and lots of technology upgrades. However, this game is hard. Difficulty 1 is not easy it's normal, 2 is hard and 3 is nightmare. Combat seems the most challenging but check the guides before starting a new game. Consider yourself warned and enjoy.
Mixed bag. Sometimes very fun, sometimes excessively obtuse, sometimes throws a brick wall at you for zero reason whatsoever. Sometimes blocks progress because you've not done what you already did and it wants to to do it again.
This game is not a walk in the park. Even though it's a modern remake, it preserves most mechanics from the original intact. Expect endless “dungeon” crawling and backtracking, ammo preservation and inventory management, figuring out where to go and what to do based solely on audio logs and logical reasoning, with no arrows or map indicators to guide you. This is a hardcore, old-school game that doesn't hold your hand and demands thinking and patience — things that modern games have completely forsaken. A challenging, sometimes utterly frustrating experience, but a rewarding one. While I appreciate Nightdive's remasters, this remake is, by far, their most monumental contribution to the game industry.
Genuinely good game. Runs on almost anything and has a great atmosphere and art direction. The more subjective side is the Maze-like layout due to the commitment to being like the Original game. Once you know where to go and what to do it becomes much better.
Fantastic remake of a classic that inspired so many other games.
Classic scifi horror FPS remade with better graphics, sounds, everything. Atmosphere even more creepy than the original. Probably worth re-playing the NightDive remake even if you're old enough to have played the original. I'm enjoying it.
