About Tribal Pass

✦ AI summary

Lead your tribe through procedurally generated wilderness in a relentless tactical runner where you manage resources, split your group strategically, and navigate dangerous encounters without ever stopping. Master split-second decisions and environmental interactions to keep your people alive and fed as you race toward the Big Pass before the apocalyptic Flaming Dew consumes everything.

Peace no more. Tomorrow – no more.
Shaman said: "Flaming Dew scorches the earth, wipes the life – soon."
Shaman said: "Death remains here. Life awaits – somewhere." The tribe sets off. For the Big Pass.

Tribal Pass is a tactical hardcore runner comprised of resource management and environment interactions – all on the run.

Tribesmen make their way through the unfriendly wilds encountering a quick river, a herb, a human and a beast of various danger. You play around encounters, splitting and uniting the tribe, arming it properly, making sure your people are alive and your food is in stock.

Please mind the fact that this really is a RUNNER (of no sort you've ever seen, though) – there's no stopping till the sun drops and the run ends.

The runs are procedurally built and ruthless to new players, but eventually it all depends on the player's skill.

Tribal Pass is an endless runner that feels less like a casual time killer and more like a prehistoric boot camp. From the moment you start, it pushes you to improve through repetition, learning patterns, and reacting quickly it’s all about getting better with each run. It’s definitely not an easy game, and that’s something a lot of players point out right away. The opening moments can feel especially unforgiving, with very little hand holding or gradual onboarding. You’re thrown straight into the challenge, and early deaths are almost guaranteed. That can be frustrating at first, particularly if you’re expecting something more relaxed or arcade-like. However, if you stick with it, the game starts to click. The controls are tight and responsive, which is crucial for a game built around precision and timing. As you begin to recognize patterns and improve your reactions, there’s a satisfying sense of progression even without traditional upgrades or progression systems. It becomes more about mastering the mechanics than unlocking new abilities. Visually, the game has a clean, stylized look that fits its theme well. It’s not overly complex, but it’s readable and functional, which helps…

Fun little runner with a surprising amount of depth in the interactions between actions of your tribe and other events in the world.

Tribal Pass, developed by Tribe Tea alongside Stas Shostak, Evgeniy Yudin, Alexzander Protasenya, and Ruslan Viter, and published by Stas Shostak, is an inventive hybrid that fuses endless runner mechanics with survival strategy and real-time tactical management. At first glance it resembles a pixel-art action runner, but beneath that surface lies a surprisingly layered experience built around leadership, sacrifice, and the constant pressure of guiding a fragile community through a hostile wilderness. It is not simply about dodging obstacles at speed; it is about making hard decisions while the ground never stops moving beneath your feet. The premise is straightforward yet evocative. You assume the role of a tribal shaman who has foreseen the destruction of the homeland and must lead the tribe toward salvation at the legendary Big Pass. The journey unfolds in continuous forward motion, with the tribe marching relentlessly across procedurally generated landscapes. This constant movement creates an ever-present sense of urgency. There are no pauses for careful deliberation; choices must be made quickly and often under duress. The game’s design ensures that hesitation can be as deadl…

If this came out for the SNES in 1992, it'd be a 10/10, cost $59.99 and start a whole genre of games called "pass-like" that'd define the next 5 years of gaming history. But it didn't, it came out in 2016, is a 5/10 and cost me $0.75 instead of the $160 it'd be adjusted for inflation from 1992. What does that mean? Idk. Is it worth a few quarters? Yeah. Sure.

This game is surprisingly deep and addictive tactical runner that breathes fresh life into the genre (even though it is and looks like an old game) by blending high-speed reflexes with intense resource management. Rather than a simple obstacle-dodging game, it presents a brutal, prehistoric survival journey where you must guide your ever-growing (or shrinking) tribe across procedurally generated landscapes to reach the legendary Big Pass. The game’s core hook is the ability to split and merge your tribe on the fly to navigate environmental hazards like quicksand, rivers, and predators. Resource management is constant; you must balance hunting for meat and gathering berries with the risk of losing tribesmen. In desperate times, the game even features a dark, tactical "cannibalize" button to keep your strongest members alive. The detailed pixel art captures a gritty, Neolithic aesthetic, accompanied by a tribalistic soundtrack that keeps the tension high during every run. Whilst the difficulty can be a bit too much, but successfully navigating a complex series of encounters without a scratch is immensely rewarding.
