DESTRUCTURE: Among Debris

This is one of the most innovative and well designed Breakout and overall arcade games I've ever played. I'm about 20 or so levels in (each level has like 5-6 sections to it) and there's just new stuff to challenge and engage with that I would never think to add or they do so well. The mix of training your eye on what's important but also avoiding the dangerous bullets or heat waves, or whatever else they throw at it is such a fun mixture along with just keeping the ball alive. The upgrade pathing between levels is great too in the choice of repairing yourself or picking something to help in further levels. It is currently on sale for less than 2 dollars but even full price is perfect for this game.

I love it! It's done really well. While I'm still relatively at the beginning of the game, the mechanics feel great! Speeding up to the ball so it hits the fortifications harder, trying to strategically lob it inside a tight corridor or behind the fortifications for it to wreck absolute havoc feels really good. Hitting the ball, getting hit by projectiles, causing explosions etc, all feel really good. The screen shakes, the effects sound impactful, and even the "tank" (paddle? mouse cursor?) gets pushed back with the impact. The game is structured in a way that stages are basically "level packs", with each stage consisting of 3-5 levels (for now atleast), with rewards being tied to high-score (some of which seem permanent, others not) in said level pack, and a store which offers random temporary buffs between levels in the pack, which feels somewhat micro-roguelite-y, I love it. Losing means restarting to the start of said level pack (at least on the "True" difficulty). I can easily imagine this game as a full roguelite which could be fantastic. I'm still not fully through this game but I have currently over 20 hours put into it and can confidently say this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm a fan of brick breaker games but there is a drought of good ones. There are many of them on Steam, mainly because they are easy to program, even I did one when I was a child. But most of them are not very good, very boring levels, no interesting mechanics to make them stand out from eachother, so you have a flood of poorly done shovelware. "Destructure: Among Debris" does not disappoint however. In this game you play as the "Round Thingy of Destruction" (no joke, that's the official name) and use a large ball to destroy several structures in a post-apocalyptic world to collect a mysterious substance only known as the "blue stuff". Collecting this blue stuff allows you to purchase various upgrades for you at your mysterious benefactor. The game is divided into multiple stages and each stage is divided into multiple levels that you have to beat back to back. This game is awesome. It's a combination of arkanoid and bullet hell and it requires your absolute focus. It's a kind of game you turn your thinking off and let your instict and reflexes take over. Getting hit or loosing the ball into the shredder gets you lose the currently played set. You progress by beating level sets, after you complete each set you can run it again with an additional challenge turned on (specific challenge for each set). Progressing unlocks upragred, new pick ups, new skins for you round thingy of doom and for the ball. Pick-up vary in how they work - several weapons, explosive balls, shield, et cetera. Between levels of a set a shop is visited allowing you to purchase upgrades from the list of your unlocked ones (repair, boosts to specific weapons, defensive shields. Graphics are very nice, explosions look cool, ball behaves as it should. The game's heavy music is awesome and the sounds and very good. I love playing this, try it, it's cheap, especially on discounts.

This game is insanity, in the absolute best sense of the word. Huge adrenaline rush that keeps you on your toes. As the game progresses, you become more powerful, as do the enemies. As such, there's more of everything - more damage being done to them, more damage that you're taking, and more general chaos. The game is challenging enough that you face death on particularly hard levels, but easy enough that you can progress meaningfully and not feel stuck. I'm incredibly impressed by the amount of worlds, powerups and variations of play that are introduced in the campaign. I'm about 15 worlds in, each containing 5-7 levels. From the look of the main map, I'd assume I'm about 40% of the way through the campaign and I'm still surprised by the satisfying challenges being presented to me. Overall, the most exciting brick-breaker adjacent game I've ever played. A hugely refreshing and satisfying take on the genre. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the combat element of the game, but I totally do.

NOT RECOMMENDED - dull, random frame drops and weird mouse movement smoothening that makes doing accurate movements impossible. Overall feels barebones and difficulty-padded in lieu of having actual content worth playing the game for.
