Tiny Thor

Tiny Thor is a spectacular precision platformer that starts off pretty slow and easy, just to punch you [strike]Asylum[/strike] SQUARE in the face. The story starts, and it's Thor's birthday, a party is being prepped, but Thor gets bamboozled (you can imagine by whom), and now he has to save the world from Ragnarök. A simple premise that stays simple throughout the whole game, but the story is not why you're here. You're here for the gameplay, and Tiny Thor is one of the best indie platformers I have ever played. Fluid, fast, creative, and intense gameplay steals the show. Mjölnir is his birthday gift, so you already know it will be fun. Mjölnir has free aim when using it, so you can break stuff, collect gems, solve puzzles, and kill enemies with it. The game has several mechanics sprinkled here and there, so the game never feels boring or annoying. Thor also has several new upgrades to get through the experience that will make the whole thing feel even more polished and intense. The puzzles are very creative too, using enemies and physics objects that fit well with the theme of the levels. Zany Zips mushroom bit demonstrates that some people probably should not be level designers, even though they can design some fun individual sections. Oh and the game is somewhere between decent & painfully average, goes back n forth. I cannot point to one aspect and call it atrocious, but every element (each mechanic / environmental gimmick / enemy / level design) has some kind of jank or weird design to it. Looks really good, but playing it leaves a sour taste. Though my verdict leans more toward neutral.

This is platforming tuned by experts. It feels like each additional puzzle or platforming challenge is a clever invitation to use the (generous-feeling) move set to its fullest. And the animation, music, and sound effects are spot-on for an Amiga-style game. If you, like the Onion article goes, appreciate Rayman on a different level than those around you, this game gets a strong recommend

This is a nearly there game. The control system is great and reminds me of Yoshi's Island a little, although evolved for today. But the level design is often frustrating. Sometimes it is unclear how to progress and the gameplay occasionally feels unbalanced and unfair.

All of the movement upgrades feel super janky. The wall jump is unbearable, feels like I have little control over it. Either doesn't work at all or jumps not far enough or too far. And don't get me started on dashing, it's a gamble. Whenever the game requires you to chain several of those movements mechanics together, you're in for a frustrating trial and error with no apparent reason why it finally worked when it did work.

Great game! Really enjoyed everything about it. Controls feel tight and responsive. Visually it's gorgeous, some of the most beautiful 8bit style graphics I've seen, specially the backgrounds of some levels. And the soundtrack, just perfect. Sometimes it does feel like the game is a bit too punishing in certain areas, but that's probably down to my skills because I did manage to push through eventually and it felt gooood! Overall a 9/10 for a platformer. Absolutely recommend it!
