Extinction (2018)

Extinction is a game that sets out with grand ambition but struggles to live up to the epic scale of its premise. How is it even possible to make a bad game by mixing Shadow of the Colossus with Attack on Titan ? I do not know, but Extinction managed to do just that. Repetitive and short procedurally generated missions that are basically all the same, meaningless and boring environments, movement mechanics that barely work yet are crucial to your objectives, clunky combat; this is all you'll get out of this dumpsterfire. I couldn't progress beyond the first half of the game because of a mission where I'm supposed to protect towers, except the game kept spawning giants on said towers, instantly destroying them...

a cruel game, felt awful after it

Extinction is an action game in which Avil, the last Sentinel, defends the kingdom of Deloreum from giant ogre-titans called Ravenni. The playthrough covered the first three missions before failing the fourth twice and walking away. The movement is the one credited strength, with fast traversal, wall-climbing, dashing and vaulting across the kingdom. The Ravenni execution fantasy is spectacular in concept, severing armour and limbs with rune strikes before climbing the giant to deliver a kill strike. The missions are carbon copies of each other, repeating the same rescue-civilians-and-execute-Reveni template every time. The rune energy economy is the structural problem, with enemies and civilians giving too little energy and the meter completely draining after each execution. The difficulty is excessive, with the fourth mission throwing two then three Ravenni at once while demanding the extinction meter stay above thirty per cent. Failing means the town falls, and the demoralising sting combines with the energy grind to make the loss feel earned. The tutorial nags constantly, repeating the same reminders over and over. Meh, I bought this game for a little over $4.00 and it was worth the money, though I wouldn't buy this game at full price.

Horrible execution of cutscenes and dialogue and exposition dumping, this time the enemies have the headstart and not you, and more than half the missions are unskippable exposition dumping, the combats repetitive, and best of all... well you guessed it! unless you haven't :c well the game absolutely stole the plot of attack on titan and isn't original in it's plot whatsoever! yay! :D oh and i got this game for at worst $5, do not pay $30 for this, go buy elden ring or some brand new $60 game instead lmaoooo!
