About Messiah

About: Bob is a working-class angel ordered by God himself to go and clean up the putrid, disgusting, sleazy, and infested world of the future. He has been given the power of possesion so that he can sneak up on any person, animal or genetically engineered being and leap right into their souls!

With your help, Bob can then use their bodies, their weapons, or even their bare hands to strangle, cripple, impale, and incinerate the cities of sinners sent to stop you from finding Satan himself. Hiding in their souls, Bob can use these sinners' bodies against their will as armor (to take pain for him), or he can use them for camouflage (to hide inside them) and pretend to be just another twisted citizen in the Messiah world...

The rules are up to you - enjoy the freedom.
  • Possess anyone you want and make them do your bidding
  • A grim Cyberpunk atmosphere with a touch of the divine
  • Save humanity from the Devil using your brains and your enemies’ brawn

A one-of-a-kind experience with a rather unique body swapping mechanic and a completely unhinged setting. It's edgy, it's morbid, it's cruel and it's a work of passion. It's best to play it on a VM though since even with patches the game is plagued with issues on modern hardware. The biggest offender is music which you need to burn to a CD for the ability to even hear it in game and then the tracks are all in the wrong order and it breaks the minute you die and reload a save. I don't usually write reviews unless a game has really resonated with me and Messiah surely did. Definitely recommend to play it, even if getting it to run properly might take more time than finishing the game.

This version isn't patched to 1.02, so it has a bug around the third "level" where going up an elevator to open a door to get further into the game is bugged. Unless you patch it it's a show stopper. I got the game in 2018 for $5 so I'm not upset, but there is no reason to buy this full price, especially with Interplay's death/dissolving. Game is also pretty mediocre. Interesting concept, but more frustrating to play than anything because the possession mechanic needs (on anything above "easy") to be from behind and some of the later characters (the big monster one especially) can be hard to possess because of it. With refinement, it could've been good. But I think it's easily skippable. (Works on Linux, bar said bug. If you are able to patch it on Linux, let me know how you did it on the Steam forums as I'm curious. I had to play two levels on Windows before moving my save back to Linux to finish on a reverted 1.0/1.01 version after playing the "bugged" levels on patch 1.02, so saves work upgrading/downgrading, FYI.)

most unique story line and best for its age in game dynamics and play mode - possessing bodies is so cool
