About Orrstead

In Orrstead, you manage resources and peacefully grow a city, without punishing failure mechanics.

BUILD A CITY

Start by building houses, farms, and markets to keep your citizens fed and happy, allowing your city to grow.

UNLOCK TECHNOLOGY

Orrstead borrows mechanics from incremental games like Cookie Clicker, with each building having exponentially increasing costs.

Overcome these costs by unlocking new technologies, which introduce new production chains, synergies, and mechanical depth.

ADAPT TO SEASONS

Adapt to the changing seasons, with each season bringing new technologies, limitations, and strategies.

It's a very chill and easy city builder. If you want complex optimization, this game is not for you but if you like to overproduce stuff and continue building buildings and expanding your population, it probably is. The game gives you each building in a specific order so you can easily learn what each building does and why you might need it. It leaves the economic repercussions of certain things up to the player to discover, so it's not a stale tutorial. It's simply perfect for unwinding.

This is touted as a minimalist city builder, and they do mean that. I want to like this game, but it only really has a couple hours of content. After that, the path to progression become needlessly tedious, mindless and a little broken (as in, the game stops working properly). While the visuals, music, and general gameplay are all charming, I'll highlight the problems that made me give this a negative review. -The game doesn't use scientific notation. This generally isn't a problem when your below a million wisdom (money) in this game, but there is no guide as to the acronyms they are using. I don't know what novemdecillion means, and the acronyms aren't always obvious (the game doesn't tell you what they mean all the time). It would have made far more sense to use scientific notation. If you play this game for more than an hour, you'll quickly run into this problem. -After about 20 in game years, the seasonal timer stops progressing. Pretty sure this is a glitch, and the only way to progress is to have the game on fast forward at all times. If you get high enough, the only way to get to the next season is to close and open the game. -Wisdom geodes only give their reward so…

The game is a fine idle city builder, but the scaling costs are INSANE compared to the amount of time one would like to sink on this kind of game. Half the achievements are based on population but after about 170-180 population (where I ended up stopping) its half a trillion to build ONE house that can only hold 2 people! There needs to either be a reduction in scaling costs or more options need to be added in order to gain consistent wisdom as in the game once you get about an hour in you have to wait to get those policies (but from what i have seen even those do not net you enough wisdom in order for the time sink to be meaningful). Overall, good minimialistic idle game if you are looking to kill 2-3 hours of your day. Would not get this game unless it was on sale or until the dev fixes the scaling costs issue.

Pretty linear and then there is nothing new. Only a few hours of gameplay.

Changed this review to negative. While it being a relaxing building game with incremental values, once your city reaches around 1.2k citizens bugs will appear, trains will load in the wrong things while it's not on the track, certain processables will just not work unless you destroy and rebuild them, reloading the game does not fix this. And let me not start at the FPSS, trying to play this game at 7FPS while my pc was doing fine is just terrible optimisation from devs part.
