Fugue in Void

Not a game, but more of an amazing artistic experience. Very liminal in a way that most of the liminal style games don't manage to nail, and the sound is amazing. Highly recommend for those looking to play something while in an "altered state" :)

Straight out of a video installation in a modern art museum. Not much of a game, it's an experience. The design is there and definitely on the good side of the genre. The "photo flash" and "zooming lights" scenes were so good that they could be separate art installations. However the lack of exploration freedom at times and the game forcibly pushing forward half of the time hinders the experience. Let me walk on concrete in peace please :( I can see that the dev can design great scenes but he's not letting us explore them freely. He has some brutalist-megastructure stuff on itch. Some artsy stuff on his personal site and currently works for Hinterland (The Long Dark). Definitely check them out. I don't get most of the scenes except the overall idea which is enough for me. Understanding art was never required for enjoyment anyway. I would recommend only if you're into media arts or concrete in general, otherwise you'll have a hard time sitting through it for 40-50 minutes. I use the term "walking sim" incredibly loosely here because for even the very small amount of time it takes to complete this game, there's hardly any walking to be done. The environments are some of your typical liminal spaces, ranging from almost desert-world beige landscapes akin to Kairo, to more industrial sections and light manipulated corridors with kaleidoscopic effects that take some inspiration from games like NaissanceE. All things considered however, there isn't really a great deal to look at since most areas are tightly closed off with nothing in the immediate horizons to be seen. Any potential aesthetics are limited to exactly what's in front of you and that isn't really all that much to begin with because the detailing is fairly broad and not particularly abstract. At first I thought it was a movie, but then I could walk and the scenery in this game was awesome, as well as the sound design. I loved walking the abstract locations and construct a lore of some sort in my head, I enjoyed this very short experience, though I think the price is a little bit too high for it

10/10. If you're like me and you just want to wander a vast and beautiful atmospheric brutalist megastructure, this game is for you! Stunning architecture. 1 hour in length, just play it through in one sitting. Absolutely worth the money.

Incredibly odd and annoying introduction; I thought the game was broken for me. Looks like one of those performance tests where you're shown a series of surreal animations that task your GPU to test the FPS. I actually thought "Why did you sell me your experimental animation movie as a game?" I literally quit before I got to the gameplay. I'll give it another try, now that I know the intro is 10 FRIGGING MINUTES LONG for absolutely no reason. You could argue it's like the Dark Souls early filter: "If they can't sit through a boring 10-minute introduction, this game is not for them," but, come on! lol --- After actually playing it, I enjoyed it. It's like a worse NaissanceE in gameplay and length, but I really liked the quality and extra color of the architecture (NaissanceE was mostly grayscale). Something I can really praise, intentional or not, is the feeling of "we're getting somewhere". You never feel lost, or going in circles; there's always a door, or corner, or staircase in sight, but a little restrictive too.
