About Stories In Stone

An RPG about a tribe exploring an ancient world. Forge a bond with your wolf and help your tribe survive!
You must settle in a new land, so collect resources, train with your master, and grow stronger by learning powerful skills!!

For those just looking to experience the story, there are 2 distinct modes.
  • Full rpg experience with combat (10-18 hours), or…
  • “Adventure Mode” (4-6 hours), which removes the element of combat and strategy,
but leaves the story, puzzles, and exploration to enjoy!

    Key Features/Mechanics

    • A cave painting come to life!
    • Most progression comes from exploration, find items to raise your stats. Some of the best skills require items to learn too, so choose wisely!
    • Heal in between battles by eating/hunting the small animals such as bats, squirrels, and lizards. Also recovers SP used for many skills, so you can keep on moving. Just make sure to have enough stamina in order to DASH.
    • Many skills push or pull enemies. This changes what skills they can use in battle as well as some stats. Line them up strategically to hit multiple enemies with a single attack!
    • Timed button presses are needed for some skills, so stay on your toes!
    • Open progression system:
    • Animals in your party can be upgraded by finding items. Their HP and SP will go up with each level but the other stats are up to you!
    • Choose many new skills to learn with EV points, even from the start! Create some powerful synergies with your team!
    • Puzzles and variety in every area:
    • Use clues in your journal to solve various puzzles. Or just figure them out on your own… maybe…
    • Use various plants in the environment to refill stamina instantly, see hidden tracks, or gain temporary power

    • 2 versions; one for RPG veterans and one for those who just want to experience the story
    • 10-18 hours to complete the game in the normal version

    Developer Profile:

I am a therapist in Santa Ana, California. I currently live with my wife, two cats, and one dog.
This is my second game so far. I’m a life-long gamer, (growing up with two brothers, we played a ton of different games) and an RPG lover. I worked on this by myself, but had input from testers, family, and friends. Big thanks to the creators of many useful plugins too!

So you know where some of my influences come from, some of my favorite games are; Castlevania, Mario RPG, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Smash Bros., ‘Tales of’ games, Zelda, and Albert Odyssey.

The first thing I thought when I saw this game was, “wow, is that a cool concept or what!” Like, even before playing it I had to give it style points for being something so different and interesting. Being able to play a cave painting is something so amazing that I went in completely excited for what I was getting into. And, I am happy to say, this game lived up to that excitement completely! The turn-based battle system is both enjoyable and challenging, having a lot of details that really elevate the gameplay. You get to choose your abilities for yourself and your animal companions as you raise your stats, and these are used during battle by spending either SP or TP depending on the ability, SP being something that has to be replenished through items and TP being something that fills up as you attack enemies. Where your enemies are on the field changes what attacks they can use and what attacks you can use on them in turn. All of this means that a lot of thought goes into fights, both before and during your battles, which I absolutely love. Explaining it surely makes it sound like a lot to take in, but trust me when I say it’s really fun. It’s also great that [i]Stories in Sto…

I'm writing this review as the first impressions I had from the game so far. In Spears in Stone, you play as a hunter of a nomad clan in search of resources like meat, water and materials. For that, you and your wolf partner will explore from north to south and from east to west to hunt and kill wild animals in a turn-based RPG system. I like the way you already start with a good amount of skills and abilities, so you can already trace different combat strategies. They've focused on the stance of the enemies, where if they're too close to you, they will deal more damage but be more exposed to your attacks; at the same time if they're too far, they won't deal as much damage but can easily evade your strikes, which I found it interesting. Here's a little tip: you'll start with some attacks that can push your enemies or bring them closer to you, and you'll also have a spirit skill that affects everyone who's in the same stance. That means if you're combating two or more animals, you can just pull or push them in order to place them in the same column and, in the next turn, use this skill to strike all of them at the same time! The art is not just nice, but it's the core identity …

Good graphics, hand drawn characters, fun music and, decent story. You'll feel like a kid again playing this, I did. Reminds me of when I played games like Secret of Mana. Thank you for a good game sir!

After receiving an early opportunity to play through Stories in Stone in it's entirety, I can recommend it to anyone interested in classic jrpg's. The stylized visuals are very fitting for the time period the game is set in and as a jrpg veteran myself , I clocked in at around 10 hours to complete. The story moves at a brisk pace and doesn't out stay it's welcome. At no point did I feel any new area or obstacle dragged and new locales had the variety to keep the entire experience fresh. The enemy variety was also plentiful which helped keep the battles interesting. Speaking of the battle system, it utilizes multiple resource pools along with many types of attacks and abilities which allow the player to try plenty of different tactics. One of the unique tactics is a feature to push or pull enemies into three different lanes on the battle field, which change what attacks they're capable of as well as how much damage or evasion they output. Along side the choice of abilities is also the choice to build your party members how you see fit with various items which directly impact their stat points, both in terms of standard jrpg equipment and items found in the field. When exploring …
