Giving this one a thumbs up, but do know you're getting into a pretty rough game. It would be one year before we got something on the level of Loren, but Planet Stronghold was a great foundation for what was to come and has a lot of unique things going for it. You just have to get to grips with the maximal UI, busy angular art, and the rather rough difficulty due to some choices with how armor works (don't be afraid to start in easy), along with the odd pacing (the first four chapters are basically the training wheels before the game fully opens). It does pick up from there, ends up having some fun characters once their hangouts open up, a surprisingly interesting conflict and route split, and there's satisfaction to be had once you know what you're doing and can play the enemies properly to control the flow of combat. I'm enjoying this a good bit, but you do need to have some experience with clunkier RPGs to vibe with it I feel.

TL;DR: ------------------------------------------------------ I liked the game and its systems, but there is little to no replay value after your initial play, which will become plagued with lag the longer your playthrough runs. ------------------------------------------------------ Planet Stronghold is an interesting mixed bag, initially I thought it was better than Loren: The Amazon Princess, and in regards to combat/leveling I think it is a more compelling system... however things fall apart when you realize there is no visual novel mode after beating the game. Visual Novel mode made it easy to see other paths without having to entirely replay through the game, Planet Stronghold however has never received that mode/option which makes seeing other paths rather painful. If the combat is better why is it painful? Well you see every archetype for combat in one run, so there's nothing new by changing yours, second if you are like me and do EVERY battle than there is nothing more to experience with the combat, meaning you are just going through the exact same content again. If this game didn't have so many performance issues due to its aged engine and had visual novel mode, I woul…

Quoting user Jay It seems you have a choice to solve things peacefully. Except for certain events where you don't. The game lies to you straight into your face claiming it might be good idea to invest in non-combat skills. If you do, you are dead in 4th chapter.

A simple sci-fi rpg, but certainly enjoyable. It's kinda like Mass Effect 1 - introduces a cool universe and takes You on a very clear journey with your very own crew of heroes.. it was fun enough that I jumped into the Planet Stronghold 2 right after.
