Dune Sea

[b][i]Review copy provided by publisher[/i][/b] It’s always important to have a clear sense of purpose and direction in a game, both in terms of the narrative and the actual gameplay. The player should never be left sitting there wondering why they’re doing anything, which is how I spent most of my time with Dune Sea. I understood what I was doing, certainly, getting from one end of a level to the other without slamming into something harder than my soft, goosey body. But I never understood why I was doing it, or collecting other birds, or flying through rings, or honking, or flying through rings to drop rocks on alien flowers. And without that direction, it became harder and harder to keep going as the experience unraveled further. You are a goose, star of a titled game this time, and resident of a rather arid patch of land. Your usual soaring and honking are interrupted, however, by a massive explosive impact that luckily does not vaporize you. You set off on your aerial constitutional anyway to find the deserts greatly changed, with rocks hovering in midair, strange crystals jutting from the dunes, and ravenous black flowers lashing at anything in range. I dind't enjoy that game. The controls are not the best, and you can't change them in the settings. The environment might be pretty and the music ambient and relaxing, but the ga,e itself has many flaws - e.g. you often cant see the bird you're flying because of too bright sun or something else. It's not often clear, if there is an obstacle in front of you or just a background, which you can't bump into, and this is the most annoying part. It's not clear either, if you need to do all these side quests like flying throuh a circle or finding other birds to join you. It's ofthen not clear, if you should fly above the rock or beneath it, as often if you decide to fly above, the controls won't allow you to fly above it and you simply crush. It's all very annoying.

Dune Sea is a wholesome, zen little side-scrolling game where players take on the role of a Goose trying not to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die, well at the same time bringing back some life to a desolate desert. The soundtrack is helps me get in the gliding mood, the controls are floaty but not too unruly and it's got a quite beautiful low-poly world. If you're looking for a game to kill an evening just zoning out and flying this is your game.

This game is really relaxing. Zen mode gives you the same story as classic without the death. HONK and the fart boost were my favorite parts. Maybe some twitch integration where viewers could have bird friends named after them.

Nice game with good music, flying like a goose, and soaring through the sky. The game has no presented purpose or direction behind it. It is just flying a goose -with weird and poorly explained controls- through a desert towards nowhere in particular. Other than moving forward through the levels from left to right there is no discernible purpose or intent to the game. Doesn't quite fit into casual or adventure, there is no particular category the game fits into and the playing experience reflects that. The game doesn't know what it is and the player can tell. Would not recommend this as a game to buy, especially with the amount of bugs and problems in it.
