Void Marauders

As a XCOM fan I'm always looking for something to scratch the itch of no new XCOM in years. This looked like it'd do just that. But, alas, it did not. The story setup is fine, nice sci-fi style story. Pirates. Aliens. Spaceships. I even liked the sell stuff you've gained from battle to pay your crew and heal them bit. But man, oh man, the combat was an instant turn-off. Sure it has the XCOM style movement, but it's an unbearable slog in the beginning. Shoot something for 1 damage, get shot for 3 damage. Oh, that alien you just injured? It regenerated. *shakes head* While I think there's probably some fun to be had later on, the balancing is borked from the beginning. Ship combat, that'll surely be better. Uh.. I move my ship near an enemy ship. I only have the option to fire at will. Alright, that sounds good. Cue a scene where my ship is shooting at absolutely nothing when there's an enemy ship right there. It's clear to me that this just isn't going to pull me in, and whatever fun sauce the game's hiding behind this beginning slog of "no fun here," I'm just never going to see.

Overall, I had fun playing; I would give it a 7 out of 10. I paid about the same as a hamburger combo meal and got many hours of fun out of it. I finished the game with the research ship. The game never crashed or locked up, but it did glitch occasionally. I encountered some bugs, but nothing game breaking. I went with a mixed crew: 2 human mercs, 1 human raider, 1 techno sorcerer, 1 void merc, 1 human assassin. For ground combat: - The human raider was a bit OP and would routinely wipe entire squads by herself using a fire knife. - The human assassin was almost as powerful, but eventually runs out of ammo. - The techno sorcerer is a great all around character and my favorite move was to pull powerful enemies out of cover with recall, so the rest of the squad gets unhindered shots. - The void merc was the typical heavy; some of the abilities seemed lame (at least for my playstyle), like void roar and stomp. - The human mercs were only OK and could have easily been replaced with any other class, they were the last to reach max level, and it got frustrating near the end game holding everyone else back so they could get some exp. Fun little game. You play as space pirates in a sandbox-ish Tactical RPG. Battles play similar to Xcom2 even though less polished and balanced (the first couple missions are really hard, any subsequent ones are a walk in the park). Cool classes and loads of customisation options for your squad. Two main down sides are: - Despite fighting relatively few enemy squads all battle maps are huuuge. I found myself fairly often wasting time searching the last enemy squad on these massive maps - Don't really see any end game content. There's not loads of equipment you can collect, the important ship components are purchased quickly. After 11 hours, I would really like to continue playing but don't really see anything other than the main quest to achieve... Overall, I recommend the game since I like Xcom2 and hate when you're forced into a campaign that needs to finish. This game is different, it took the good parts from Xcom2 and gave it a more open world without a timer.

Foundations are solid, just needs more content. I've enjoyed it as is, just wish there was more. Forever scratching that X com like itch.

Great game here, a few rough edges, but the core perfectly scatches that itch for a xcom style rpg. It is challenging, but as long as you are not afraid to treat to like a roguelike and start over while you learn a little extra each time, you will have a great time with this hidden gem.

A very good game for the price and worth a buy I hope the dev or devs make updates on this game because it could have a bright future. However they need to get rid of the beeping GOD thats a horrible thing to add to a game. NO ONE wants to hear beeping every time they have to read text or hit a button it is horrible please remove that. Otherwise it is worth a buy and it is a cool game if you can't afford xcom 2 this is your go to.
