About Sons of Ra

Sons of Ra is the award-winning competitive tower defense game by indie studio Pharaoh Hound Games. Play solo or join your friends in this unique strategic experience.

After the death of the Pharaoh, the rulers of Upper and Lower Egypt, each lusting for more power, fought for domination over the lands of the Nile. Take control of one of these Pharaohs to build, conquer, and destroy. Only one will stand as the true Ruler of Egypt.

Build powerful defenses and expand your control across the board. Towers provide your keep with a strong defense against invaders, or can be used aggressively for lane control to push your warriors forward. There are multiple maps to choose from, each offering a distinct experience and new strategic possibilities.

Your soldiers each fill an exclusive role on the battlefield. Spearmen find strength in numbers, swarming the enemy and defeating them through sheer volume. Shieldbearers have the ability to protect those around them, drawing attention and damage to themselves. Archers have attacks that can rip through several of your foes at once, and Catapults lumber across the map, pushing your adversaries back and demolishing their defenses.

Choose your deity wisely. All of them have a variety of unique abilities that can turn the tide of battle in a single moment. Ra can call upon the power of the sun to destroy entire hordes of hostile troops, while Anubis can summon a priest who will turn your opponent's forces against them, creating a tireless army of the dead.

We have a lot of new content in the works, including maps, blessings, and entire deities. We're making a game that we want to play, and we're excited to share that game with you all. Check back here often for updates, and we'll see you on the battlefield.

Much more RTS than Tower Defense, this under-the-radar little gem is for sure worth a try! Graphics look nice with a mix of table-top feeling and fantasy elements. The Ancient Egypt theme is well made with each Gods having their own set of powers. And the AI is actually better than many games, adapting it's own strategy and being able to win its fair share of games despite your best efforts. The UI is a bit unique at first. But still easy to learn with no tutorial needed. And you might even end-up wondering why there isn't more games out there implementing this system once you get used to it! The short battles, always getting hectic pretty quickly, are perfect as a nice little pastime for moments when you don't have the time or energy to dive into a more complex game. And even if the gameplay may become repetitive after a few hours, the maps varying a little bit for each battle and AI players opting for a different strategy each time will keep you busy enough to make this a little 'battler' you will want to return to, every once in a while. As such, I really recommend you at least give it a try if you like the genre. ...May the ancient Gods be with you! ;)

I played a lot of tower defense games, but this "jumping" radial wheel for building towers and units is just terrible, sorry.

This is one of the most frantic Tower Defense Versus games I have ever played. It is a relatively simple game but there is a lot of depth to what you can do strategy wise which makes it really good. I just really wish the developers would update it more. There is a lot of potential here and everything is pulled off really well but it seems they don't work on it anymore. Besides all of that, I would absolutely recommend this game. It's a blast playing against your friends!

This one is a tentative recommend based on the singleplayer experience. It kept me playing match after match today and I think I'll be playing more of it. Gameplay is based on building up three resources gold, favor, and a sort of upgrade gauge for big base expansions and unlocking more powerful units. Average match for me has been five to ten minutes. There are five playable gods, who each have a different mix of powers, with some overlapping powers. Plus each god has unique passives. The units and towers are standard across factions so the variety relies on each gods traits and powers making them play a bit different. For me I find the gods different enough to enjoy as properly different factions. The content offered isn't a huge amount but what's there feels pretty polished. No bugs so far, and the visuals are simple, clean, and pleasant to look at. The gameplay starts deceptively easy and before you know it the enemy is burying you with units and you're fighting for your life. It's those matches where the AI surprises you with its tenacity that engaged me enough to play again back match after match. It's been a really fun time trying it this weekend. BUT. Th…

As a tower defense, it's lacking a lot: variety in towers, variety in enemy units. As an invader side of the tower defense, you have not really much interesting things to do. All in all, I find this game pretty disappointing.

Really solid game with a novel multiplayer premise. Played with my partner for a few hours last night and every match was a nail biter. As a TD game, I think this gets it right in that you only need ~4 types of towers and ~4 types of units. There is enough variety there to have lots of different strategies. I get annoyed by TD games with dozens of towers and hundreds of units because at some point if feels like you're playing a spreadsheet keeping track of all the stats.
