Peanut

Absolutely horrible. Was extremely immersive with incredible visuals until stage 4, where you get softlocked after killing the first boss. This made me depressed, and i will be uninstalling steam. Absolutely disgusting

Peanut had me excited with it's premise and cute graphics. Unfortunately, the game itself is not very good. It's just a sub-par Mario clone, and I don't hate games on the virtue of them being Mario clones because some can actually be quite fun (Marisaland Legacy for example!) but Peanut feels more like the Mario ripoffs you find on the app store that play serviceable, but also not quite right. The level design leaves a lot to be desired, and many of the stage gimmicks, such as the movable boulders, just don't really work and feel glitchy. The game itself just doesn't feel finished, either. Peanut boasts about it's story, but good luck experiencing it, because the text boxes don't work. Unfortunately, I do not think it will get much better, as the devs seem to think that making a retro-style game means they can get away with their games being "less polished". (Seriously, one of their news posts says this!) I think that the game could be decent with some polish, but right now it just feels like a cheap, cynical Mario clone looking for a few dollars. I urge Team Spikkeee to do better.

Peanut is a platformer game with a casual feel to it and is colorful. Unfortunately it doesn't quite feel right or finished yet. The controls are not very good, you can use keyboard which requires 2 hands but at the same time you will have to switch to using the mouse in order to get through menus and confirm things etc. It's horrible having to keep switching your hand from the keyboard to the mouse, the keys could easily be mapped to do the commands you are using the mouse for. This must have been an oversight because there is no reason for it. Using a controller things are better in terms of character control, however, one of the buttons (y on my xbox one controller) accesses the menu and gives you no way to escape unless you reach for that mouse again. One of the buttons is literally a trap that can kill you because in order to unpause that menu you need to use the mouse which means you only have one hand on the controller meaning you can't instantly control your character after the unpause. It happened to me while jumping between platforms and I died. The platforming isn't the best either, it's got some problem either with your jumping responsiveness, edges of platforms not …

An adorable little platformer, with surprisingly tight controls. The visual style may not be for everyone but it has a charming sense of humor. Difficulty is a little steep but fair and its super fast to try again. It may be a tad rough around the edges but this is a fun game!
