STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions

A hundred times worse then regular Astroneer.

A game that I decided to buy on sale after so many updates. I have enjoyed it so far. Being a live service, seems like the game is dead. At the time of this review, only 38 people in game on steam. How long before the updates stop and the service is cut off ? I would not recommend this game not even on sale. Sad that i had to come to this. In the mean time I guess I will play as much I can with what it offers. It even runs great on my ROG Ally X

Extremely disappointing. Clumsy, annoying gameplay mechanics, almost complete lack of meaningful content or progression.

A word from new players: I’ve clocked up several hundred hours in Astroneer, and I’m still having a blast with it, especially when playing with friends. Early Access for €25? Really? Just as a reminder: Astroneer itself costs around €8. And Unreal Engine 5? Really? Unity seemed much better suited to this kind of game. It supports a wider range of graphics hardware and offers native Vulkan support, meaning native Linux and Mac versions could potentially be made without relying on Steam Proton. There is no proper support for AZERTY keyboards — apparently, you’re just expected to change your entire keyboard layout. There’s also no option to remap the controls. I literally can’t move around comfortably without twisting my wrist. Meanwhile, Astroneer runs smoothly for me on the “High” preset. This game? I’m currently playing on “Low” and struggling to maintain 20 FPS. The game also crashes when scanning the portal. That forces me to restart the tutorial and sit through the intro cutscene AGAIN — A CUTSCENE YOU CAN’T SKIP. And that intro is buggy. Instead of being a simple cinematic or a series of pre-rendered images, it appears to be a fully rendered 3D scene that puts unnecess…

30 min air timer to explore and do missions? give me a break! Game killer mechanic there. its like someone said what made Astroneer great ? and then made a game that was the exact opposite of that. Two thumbs way down on this one, I tried , I really did, I wanted to like it, but alas, its too much of the same thing over and over. nothing feels original or interesting, just fetch quests until your eyes bleed.
