In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets.

Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes, and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, underwater arcade, or even a space station.

What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players appreciate the game's early exploration and adventure, with some enjoying it enough to log significant hours, though many note it heavily mirrors Terraria with a space setting. The main criticism is that the game lacks depth in its second half, with progression and content becoming repetitive and tedious, though mods can help improve the experience. Most recommend it primarily to Terraria fans or as a budget purchase rather than a full-price buy.

Just play it with mod
I love this game! I've been playin' it since I was little, and it kept me entertained for years until I got burnt and it came back. The base game is amazing, and the mods don't take away any of the fun (infact, it is very easy to mod if that is within your wishes.)
I don't know how I got this many hours 'cuz I sure as hell didn't play it for this long. That aside, only play this game if you are a big terraria fan because it seems more like terraria in space than its own game. Competent though and I would recommend getting on sale like I did.
This is half-baked Terraria in space. There are a lot of cool ideas here, and the fantastic sense of adventure and exploration makes the first 10-20 hours great. However, you'll quickly realize that there is no depth to any location, faction, or mode of progression in this game, which totally kills the fun. The back half of this game is up there with sitting in the DMV for 4 hours as one of the most boring experiences I have ever had. Sure, mods salvage the experience somewhat, but unless you are absolutely in love with the space setting, there is genuinely zero reason to play this over Terraria.
Cool game got to the end but didn't finish, great storyline, recommend for most :D
