About Squares Rage

Squares Rage is a minimalist style puzzle / "rage" game, in which the player is a square who must navigate through a series of puzzles that get increasingly more difficult. Use the arrow keys to navigate the square to the flag at the end of the level in as few deaths as possible! Press 'S' to self-destruct (if you need to)!
Prepare your cheapest keyboard for this game too. You'll probably be throwing it across the room after dying so many times.

There are four difficulties to play the game on
* Easy: Unlimited Deaths allowed. Play on easy to get a feel for the game or just to practice the levels!
* Medium: 50 Deaths allowed. If you surpass 50 deaths, you must start back from the beginning. If you don't want to smash your computer, I recommend playing on medium.
* Hard: 10 Deaths allowed. If you surpass 10 deaths, you must start over. If you feel like getting angry today, this is the mode for you.
* Impossible: Just as the name implies, this is probably impossible (or at least very, very, VERY difficult). You are allowed 1 death before you must start over. If you can beat the game in this mode, I salute you.

There are 25 levels in all with several different themes to each of them. Don't let that fool you either, however. It will probably take several hours to get through them all flawlessly.

So I played Squares Rage while it was in early access back in late September, having been given a key by the dev after he shared his game on reddit asking for feedback. I played through it, and rather disliked it, but put a lot of time and effort into articulating my criticisms in order to make the dev aware of his bad game design practices. So why am I writing this Steam review now, months later, you may be asking? Well, I uninstalled the game soon after sending the dev my review (in the form of a comment on an unlisted YouTube video of my playthrough), and quickly forgot about it, but then the dev occasionally made reddit posts about the game every so often, which showed up in my feed since I also follow some of the same communities (e.g. r/playmygame, r/gamemaker, r/steamdeals). As a result, I was consistently reminded of Squares Rage's existence, and thus my curiosity was sparked each time regarding how the game has evolved since my feedback was received. While some small but significant changes were implemented (such as fixing the achievements, slightly improving the visuals, and removing some audio and user interface bugs), Squares Rage has remained essentially the same expe…3 found this helpful
It's short, frustrating and fun. A good all around puzzle game. But I'd like it if the music was a little kinder to the ears as well as stage transitions1 found this helpful
Short and difficult puzzle-game. Difficulty doesn't change the levels, but limits how many times you can die before its "game over" and you have to start from the first level again. Some levels are slow and tedious which makes that quite annoying when trying to get all achievements. However, the first playthrough was enjoyable.
The MOST Angonating Game I Have Ever Played
Fairly short but good game, will probaly not take you more then an hour or 2 but is quite fun. Although the difficulty does not really mount as i found myself struggeling with some of the levels where you press a different key to get to the end but found the rest of the game easy in comparision. There are still some bugs though. I have noticed spike collision issues even after the latest patch and i have not received some achievements for finishing the game, nothing too big. The levels at the end are clearly inspired by a certain other game ;). Overall nice game would recommend 7/10!
Owning a cat vs. Owning Squares Rage 1. A cat has a mere 9 lives | The Square has unlimited lives. 2. Cat will bite you whenever it gets a chance | Square will never hurt you. 3. Cat stinks up the house with its litter box | Square never has to poop. 4. Cat constantly needs to be fed | Square is never hungry. 5. You can beat up the square as much as you want and it will always love you. You can't say the same for a cat. In short, if you are thinking about adopting a cat, buy this game instead. Square makes a better pet.
