About Goo Keeper

Play as Rolly the super Goo and explore Shroomast, A large interconnected maze-like mushroom world that its Goo denizens call home. You must find and defeat the corrupted creatures spawned from the toxic tar that has recently entered this world from outside pollution.

Goo Keeper is a pure 2D metroidvania, action adventure with tons of unique bosses, hand-crafted worlds and creatures, and tons of awesome abilities.

A Unique World

Goo Keeper is set in Shroomast, a land of Goos and Mushrooms. Goos are slime creatures that are born from mushrooms and mutated into all sorts of beings. The most advanced goos can take humanoid characteristics while some can become fearsome monsters. Goo Town, the starting village, is where Rolly and some other peaceful goos live. While due to pollution, some other goos were corrupted and have taken a more destructive lifestyle.

Being slime by nature, goos can take different shapes and evolve dynamically. This is seen in some or Rolly’s abilities even. One of which makes his hand turn into a giant hammer.

Beautiful hand drawn semi-open world

Goo Keeper offers a hand drawn semi-open world divided in multiple zones. It has multiple ways of progressing forward, where you can tackle bosses and areas in alternate order as well as bypass some altogether. The optional bosses can guard unique abilities or easier paths to another location. There are 9 primary zones within that world to explore.

Dozens of unique Abilities

There are 3 types of abilities. The mandatory abilities which are required to progress through the game. These include wall climbing, the power roll, etc. The optional equipable abilities which serves to customize your play style and improve your power against more powerful foes. These come in two flavors; active and passive. Finally we have the hidden abilities; these are from combining specific equipable, active or passive, ability into a new alternate version.

All abilities use up energy from the energy meter, which refills automatically on its own. The speed for which it refills however is based on the power of the ability itself. This is a simpler way to manage how often you can re-use abilities, while also given the choice between faster attacks or slower more powerful attacks.

Game Features

  • Classic metroidvania 2D side-scrolling action, with all the modern hand-crafted art style.
  • Explore a vast interconnected maze-like land of overgrown castles, forgotten temples and and the deep mushroom underworld.
  • Create your own path! Shoomast is large and open. Choose which paths you take, which enemies you face and find your own way forward.
  • Great 2D controls with great abilities: jump, roll, block and shoot your way through even the most deadly creatures.
  • Find powerful abilities like Rolly's hammer, Power roll, Energy shield, wall jumping and many more.
  • Equip active and passive abilities you find! Choose your favorites combination and make your adventure unique!
  • An large cast of cute, creepy and monstrous Goos all brought to life with traditional 2D frame-by-frame animation.
  • Tons of enemies, dozens of epic bosses and lots of hidden secrets and traps!
  • Beautifully detailed worlds with lots of unique hand-drawn things which makes visiting each room fun.
  • Amazing soundtrack to accompany you in your adventure.

On a peaceful day in Goo Town, a tiny universe of slime and mold, A black toxic oil drip came down from the world above, infecting and polluting this micro world, turning some of the peaceful villagers to monsters, while others had to escape their fate. The defender of this universe, from a long line of powerful super Goos, hears the calamity above his cave. Armed and ready, his adventure starts. 10/10. Easy 100% and a lot of fun to speedrun

Goo Keeper is a charming 2D Metroidvania that combines an unusual slime-centered fantasy setting with exploration, platforming, combat, and ability-driven progression. Developed and published by Oria Games Inc., the adventure follows Rolly, a peaceful Goo whose home in the interconnected world of Shroomast has been disrupted by toxic tar. This pollution has contaminated the environment and transformed once-friendly inhabitants into aggressive creatures. The resulting journey sends Rolly through a strange underground civilization where colorful mushrooms, mutated Goos, ancient structures, dangerous monsters, and environmental hazards contribute to a distinctive identity. Exploration is one of the game's most important elements. Shroomast consists of nine main zones connected into a larger world rather than functioning as completely isolated stages. Players encounter locations ranging from overgrown castles and forgotten temples to mushroom-covered environments and inhabited settlements. Progression is deliberately somewhat flexible, allowing certain areas and encounters to be approached in different sequences. Some bosses are optional, and alternative paths can occasionally provide…

This is a short, fun, simplified metroidvania. There are minor quirks in getting used to the controls and in certain boss/enemy behaviour, but nothing upsetting. There are a lot of secrets and neat upgrades to find. It's on the easier side of metroidvanias, though still not something you can play blindfolded. I had a lot of fun and will keep an eye out for another project from these devs.

Recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. The graphics are charming, a nice change from all the dark games out there. The game play was fun. It's not a genre I've spent much time in, but I found it addictive.

The menu controls are broken, presumably after changing the joypad bindings. There is no way to reset to default either so the game is partially unplayable.
