Aztech Forgotten Gods

Cool girl with a big robot arm punches monsters. Ancient Aztec stone structures mixed with sci-fi. Boss fights against enormous towering creatures. A story that, while not amazing, tries it's best with little twists and turns. One of the (weirdly) most well executed jetpacs I've experienced in a game. PS2-level graphics are usually lovely. Animations and camera sometimes make it hard to see wtf is happening. Short but JUST long enough to become repetitive. Ran like crap on my PC for some reason. Wanted to like it more than I did. Would like to see a sequel. I wish there was a ”maybe recommend”-option. Get it on a deep sale.

[h1]Swing and a miss[/h1] Aztech Forgotten Gods is a game I really do want to like. It's indie, goes for the South-American vibe with a sci-fi angle and PS2 aesthetics. But the TLDR is that while it tries to do a lot, it misses the mark on basically every mark. Vocals are limited to grunts/belches, our protagonist has the worst case of anime hair since Yugioh, 3D-movement is maximum clunckage and combat just boils down to mashing X and hoping something connects. The camera is all over the place, character animations are stiff and exaggerated and the story/dialogue is campy at best. Worse, of the 71 minutes I spent playing it, most of it was wasted on cutscenes and waddling between points to initiate the next one. First boss took 5 minutes and most of that time was just gaining enough height to hit the glowy rocks on its limbs and off it's head. It's too late for a refund so I'll wish the devs well and hope that next time they make a game they'll playtest it thoroughly. This unfortunately was a waste of my time and money.

The Lienzo development team seems to have landed in a fun mechanic and built a great game around it. The flying mechanic in this game is so fun. I could only compare traversal to Spiderman swinging around the city! Lienzo also nailed the boss design. It is amazing. Fighting literal Aztec gods with rock a soundtrack is something everyone should experience once. Lienzo does achieve the level of epicness they desire from their fights. Thus, I wish they had more resources to polish the game more. Some voice acting and polish on their already great anesthetics will have helped deliver their story with more of a punch. I really enjoyed this game.

At first I struggled to engage with the game, but then I must admit it caught my attention and I had a lot of fun. The thing that drags the game down (something MULAKA didn't struggled with) is how dialogue-heavy this is.
