Runa & the Chaikurú Legacy

Other than performance problems and bugs, this is a huge waste of potential, because it's like a game that would be perfect for a fully 3rd person game, to admire the ruins better, to have the possibility of being more precise at platforming and to have a better combat, instead you can only partially admire the ruins, the platforming feels meh, not difficult, just me, and the perspective gets abominable when you fight enemies, above all the flying ones, that really seems to be done to fight them in 3rd person perfectly instead of an approximative way in a semi-topdown perspective like the one of this game

While some of the physics-based puzzles and combat could use some more polish, the overall experience is solid. Great soundtrack, level design and platforming. Unfortunately there's no level selection so you will need to replay the entire game if you miss collectables or some achievements on your first playthrough. Luckily this isn't as bad since on my second run where I knew what I was doing the game took me 5-6 hours to beat

An amazing 3D Platformer and Puzzle Game. In a lot of ways it reminded me to classic Legend of Zelda games with the varied 3D Mario-like platforming. A good ol' Collecthathon set apart by its unique setting in the early Latin American civilizations, a theme rarely explored that brings a distinctive story and environments. My only gripe is that I wish it had a post-game option to continue exploring the Ruins of Chaikurú to unlock all the achievements without needing to start a new save file.

I’ll start this review with a disclaimer by saying that it’s not one I wanted to make. I was really looking forward to playing and enjoying this game when it came out hence why I had followed its development closely throughout the years and watched several interviews the studio heads made about it. However at the time of playing it my principles were stronger towards pointing out its flaws and not recommending it than letting it slide. It is my belief that from proper criticism the good aspects from this experience can be enhanced and the bad ones could be worked on for a future project. So let’s get into it. I’ll start by naming the perks it has. Runa and the Chaikurú Legacy is filled to the brim with cultural references. From the artifacts you can find throughout your adventure to even the saving and health recovery mechanics, you can tell they tried to put as much charm into them as they could. Thanks to that, the player can be exposed to South American (particularly Argentinian) culture in a way they normally wouldn’t. In fact, as a local I got most of them and made me feel fuzzy upon encountering them. Furthermore, the way the artifacts were cleverly hidden made me feel mor…

This is a nice little game with some platforming. The puzzles are nice and the environments look great. There are a few downsides, though. Some of the enemies, like the snakes, seem repetitive. Also, the controls feel a bit floaty. It would have been nice to not have Runa jump to a platform while still holding the jump button, only to have her jump again, and possibly fall off the platform. On the Steam Deck, the graphics need to be optimized. There's a lot of slow down and the shaders have to be recompiled each time the game launches. Even on lower settings, there's a decent amount of frame dropping. Don't pass this game up, though. It's really pretty and the item pick-ups are funny.
