Night At the Gates of Hell

Last week, I finally watched Fulci’s Gates of Hell trilogy for the first time, so, you know, I just had to get this game out of my backlog. It’s a really fun romp, mixing familiar low-poly horror with the cheesy possessed/zombie vibes of the 70s. Great way to spend an evening if you want to shoot some demoni.

Love the atmosphere.

Absolute Cheeks! :3 Loved it!

i love NATGOH it was so fun and stan is the goat for the ending

Accidentally pressed play lost all my levels and have to restart is it that hard to make checkpoints? And not have play game delete everything? now for some reason inverted camera and censored nudity are permanently on even though they arent toggled in settings. what the hell???

Night at the Gate of Hell is a huge leap forward from the first game by the Black Eyed Priest. Pretty much everything here is an order of magnitude better than in Bloodwash, from the gameplay to the technical side of things, and the improvement is genuinely noticeable. This is no longer just a linear horror game with jump scares scattered here and there. It is a full-blown survival horror game. Of course, it is not Resident Evil, but the progress is undeniable. Yes, we are still following a fairly linear path, but the actual gameplay has become much more engaging. Truth be told, this game often feels more like a comedy than a horror. I have nothing against that. It is part of the genre, and retro VHS horror often goes hand in hand with comedy. But this one is genuinely funny, in a good way. The Cheek Freak expansion alone is just comedy gold. This is a great game that tries to do something new within its genre and succeeds quite well. Plus, the two small built-in expansions are a really nice bonus. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys VHS and retro horror.
