About Sakura Gym Girls

Kitagawa Shouhei is a young man who lives in a quiet town, where he runs his deceased grandfather’s bookshop. His life is an ordinary one, but he’s content with it, even if he hasn’t had a girlfriend in years.

Shouhei is happy enough to while away his days among stacks of old, dusty books, while chatting with his favorite (and only) colleague, the sweet-natured and mild-mannered Asa…

But his luck with women takes a sudden turn for the better when Asa asks him to go to the local gym with her, to help her shed some extra weight.

While at the gym, Shouhei runs into two very different women: the haughty and aloof Tsumiki, and the cheerful, energetic Ranko, with whom Shouhei shares a complicated past.

Join Shouhei as he helps Asa with her fitness regimen, all while trying to win over the icy Tsumiki and processing his feelings for Ranko.

Whether Shouhei will end up with Asa, Tsumiki, or Ranko (or all three of them) is up to you in this visual novel.

Characters:Asa works at Shouhei’s bookshop as his most trusted (and, indeed, only) employee. She’s a quiet girl with low self-confidence, but her gentle smile ensures she always leaves her customers feeling satisfied.

Asa is very short, which is something she’s horribly embarrassed about. She tries to counteract this by wearing heels, though she can’t help but envy popular idols and models for being so tall and willowy.

She’s liked Shouhei for a long time, but she’s too shy to act on her feelings.
Ranko used to be Shouhei’s girlfriend, back when the both of them were in university. They’ve since broken up, however, and Shouhei didn’t imagine he would ever see her again – that is, until he sees her at his local gym.

Ranko is a cheerful, upbeat girl who doesn’t sweat the small stuff. She’s always smiling, laughing, and cracking jokes, which makes her fun to hang around with – though it can be hard to tell whether she’s being serious or not.
Tsumiki is an aloof, haughty girl who acts like an aristocrat. She takes against Shouhei after their first meeting, and she’s aggressively rude towards him.

Tsumiki might seem unapproachable, but she does have a sweet side. She’s a huge fan of romance novels, though she’s never been in a relationship before herself. She dreams about being swept off her feet one day by a handsome prince, and having her own happily ever after ending…

But that’ll never happen, right?

SAKURA GYM GIRLS: AN ETHICS OF REPETITION, OR WHY THE BARBELL KNOWS MORE ABOUT THE SOUL THAN DESCARTES Sakura Gym Girls begins with a proposition so mundane that philosophy has spent two thousand years trying to avoid it: If you want to become different, you must repeatedly do things that are difficult. Shouhei is not a warrior, prophet, king, or chosen one. He runs a second-hand bookshop. His life is quiet and predictable. Then Asa, his shy coworker, asks him to join a gym. Civilization changes forever. The gym appears to be a room containing weights, treadmills, mirrors, and attractive women. This is incorrect. The gym is a laboratory in which intention is converted into flesh. Aristotle argued that we become just by doing just acts, brave by doing brave acts, and virtuous by practicing virtue. The barbell agrees. You do not become strong because you possess the concept of strength. You become strong because, on Tuesday, despite not wanting to, you pick up the heavy object again. Sakura Gym Girls is therefore not fundamentally about exercise. It is about habituation. The self is not merely discovered. The self is trained. I launched…

It's decent enough for what it's going for, took like 2 hours to reach the first ending for me. I can tell that this is a relatively "low-budget" production but it has its charms. The backing music is pleasant, the writing is dull and awkward but there are enough shenanigans to be entertaining, each girl has a distinct personality, each kind of being a new "direction" for the MC. The MC is very, very dull, kind of awkward in a not-good way, like this VN does suffer from the problem of having all of the romance options just being for some reason super into this guy who is, from what we can see, just not very interesting and also has absolutely no charisma or charm. I may also very well be playing this game for the wrong reason, but I don't really care all that much for seeing borderline soft-core hentai of the women in compromising positions with skin-tight clothing. Like, before we get super close-ups of these girls in the gym or getting soaked by sprinklers, at least let us have some more interesting conversations or do something a bit more interesting with them. Yaoi visual novels tend to be a bit more compelling sometimes because the MC is also hot and usually appealing in…

Sakura Gym Girls, developed and published by Winged Cloud, takes the familiar formula of the Sakura visual novel line and wraps it around an unexpectedly relatable premise: getting out of a stagnant routine and discovering new connections through a change in lifestyle. The story follows Kitagawa Shouhei, a young man whose days are largely uneventful as he works at a used bookstore. His life begins to shift when his coworker and longtime friend, Asa, suggests that he accompany her to a local gym. From there, the narrative unfolds into a light romantic adventure that mixes humor, friendship, and a touch of self-discovery. Unlike many visual novels that lean heavily on dramatic stakes, Sakura Gym Girls keeps its ambitions modest. The game thrives on its laid-back atmosphere, allowing players to spend time with a cast of likable characters rather than rushing toward major plot twists. The gym itself becomes a central meeting place where personalities collide, creating a series of amusing and heartfelt interactions. Asa stands out as a particularly endearing character, offering a grounded counterpart to Shouhei's easygoing personality, while the rest of the cast contributes enough vari…
