Above the Snow

In short I bought this game for an in depth hotel management game in the unforgiving frozen mountains. In the games current state management is basically non-existent order regular shipments of food to the kitchen and wood for the central heating. What the game does offer is a beautiful cosy shelter in the Swiss Alps that you can decorate and customise to your heart's content to bring in different groups of customers. The interesting management of the surrounding mountains laying trails tailored to different groups. A harsh climb to the summit of a mountain or a snowy forest hike to a campsite.

Yet another game that starts out fun and takes a turn. Honestly, I'd LOVE to recommend this game, it has a lot of fun/unique characteristics. But, here's what trips me up. Once you get past the "hey, we're building trails and this is fun", you'll have to manage things like "comfort". So, I was like "cool, I get to build some cool rooms for my guests". Unfortunately, that's really not how it works. I found myself wanting to build fun rooms, but all the game want's is for you to raise the number. I literally build like 15 cabinets in one room that I wasn't even heating. That brought my number up to the "next level" and the game was happy (and apparently my "guests" were happy too). So, the fact that the game really DOESN'T CARE about "actual comfort" but makes you do it, really bummed me out. The same holds true for "Entertainment". I also found myself getting bored making trails. I mean, I OWN the lodge, and I have climbers that are planning on going on trails that I did NOT MAKE yet. So, I am forced to go make them. That isn't really an issue, the issue is that the climbers should only be allowed to go on trails that are done. I mean, in real life, yeah some people …

Who are these players complaining about lack of "automation"? Where they coming from? Idle games? Amazing game. I think what's missing for me is more things to spend money on or at least daily costs need to be incurred, it feels too easy to make money right now even on the hardest difficulty.

It had a good story and there was something to always be doing along the way. It took me about 20 hours to complete and I enjoyed it. There was one game breaking bug where people went off on a mission but didnt and there was no way to cancel the mission so all people and vehicles involved were unusable. I had to return to an old save to fix the problem. Also a couple of times the story repeated and told me about a mission I had already completed. Otherwise there were minimal problems.

Game quickly becomes quite addicting and while I didn't think it would happen, I became invested in the little storylines of the characters and overall arc. Both the 3D and 2D artwork are great. While I am not sure about the replay value, I have had a very good time playing the first time around.
