Selene's Unbearable Night

This is the most hilariously bad game I've ever played. I'm almost tempted to give it a thumbs up since it made me laugh so much but... yeah, I wouldn't want anyone to be fooled into thinking it's a good game. I'm not talking about the cheesy retro vibe, I'm talking about the absolute horror that is the voice acting, the out of place music, the pacing of the cutscenes, the glitches where Selene becomes bold or wrestles in the air with an enemy that teleported away, the bizarre animations, the cheap "jumpscares", the writing, the terrible mechanics, the characters that look straight out of a porno. Ah. Nightmares. Nightmares for days. It is a horror game after all. But honestly? On sale and for a laugh? I'm not even regretting buying this gem.

Searching for a two-hours-"Resident Evil"-like snack? You can find it with "Selene's Unbearable Night"! For me, the game was a great experience, mixing some heavy indie vibes with a fully functional survival-horror gameplay that made me feel that every gameplay sequence was thought though and executed well. + good graphics, with different environments, nice effects, and good character models that do some good cutscenes, too + different weapons and character change during the chapters keep a big heap of variety to the game + speaking of the weapons, the fighting feels very satisfying, with some nice surprises like a sowrdfight, exploding barrels, and different hit zones making every bullet shot a pleasure + plenty of ammo and a mediocre difficulty, which is especially important if you feel a little frustrated when thinking of Resident Evil's "I have no bullet anymore and have to fight zombies with clumsy knife movements" ^^ + a nice story, very well told, with some twists I honestly can't wait to try other titles of the Developer, because they seem to be nice gaming snacks done with passion. And often, passion - and ability to make one's ideas real - is something that give others …

This game is free on Itchio and more fun on Steam with the 8 achievements I like. I hope FG95 has fun as much as I did. I give this game a 9/10, thank you.

Can't say I've ever seen satanic panic horror in video game format before, at least off the top of my head. Kind of amazed how good this is considering its predecessor is hilariously bad. I mean it's not great; the monster designs are way too corny to take seriously, and there's a narmy scream to rival Darth Vader towards the end, but despite the jank, combat is reasonably satisfying, plus it helps that Selene is really cute. Given the short length and frequently pocket change price you can get it for, it's hard not to recommend [i]Selene's Unbearable Night[/i] as a quick side diversion before a more substantial game.

A better game than I thought going in and gave enough entertainment for the price. It's obviously inspired by the Resident Evil series (largely the original Resident Evil 4) and there's a lot of jank, as well, which somehow adds to the charm and makes the game more entertaining. It's like a B movie where elements are just added and the story is weird and doesn't make much sense, but you still have some mindless fun with it. It's not a difficult game at all, and the enemies are quite easy to beat. The only times I took damage was due to misjudging the reach of some enemies or getting greedy with trying to attack them. Overall, it was an entertaining experience which I do recommend, especially if the game's on sale.
