Matchmaker: Dungeon Heart

I want to give this game a positive review because I love the concept but I am maybe an hour or two into the game and I've seen a litany of bugs from repeating dialogues to visual glitches that require a game restart to clear. When you see a game has left EA you kind of expect it to be at least a little polished particularly towards the beginning of the game.

It's a cute game about being a skeleton who's tasked with protecting a lich's dungeon. All the while you get to train with and get to know the fellow denizens - all of whom are fun takes on the stereotypical monsters. They're all charming and cute in their own way. The gameplay loop of training with everyone via the match-3 battle system is fun and straightforward - because if you win a match your training partner gets stronger, if they win, you get stronger via better rewards. All the while you have the forces of light hanging over your head. Also there's some great humour if you ever need a chuckle.

Learn different strategies with your gem matching to unlock unique powers against a variety of challenging opponents while you play through the storyline, build strong relationships, and keep the dungeons safe from the invading forces. Here you play as a newly dead creature of the night who is tasked with the role of protecting the dungeon from the land of the living. You learn that the monsters that reside here aren't really the danger - the humans are! Help your new friends with tasks, build up friendships (and maybe more), and develop your talents as a gem-wielding powerhouse that will keep this dark world safe. The world is very inclusive and is welcoming for everyone. My personal favorite so far is the vampire Calyx, healer extraordinaire and all around sweetie! Each NPC has their own special personality, goals, and strengths. Should you buy this game? No. Cons: The last fight has like 6 consecutive bosses, no regen, no breaks, no saves, etc. The game is gracious enough to let you restart the fights, but, from the very beginning. There truly is no end in sight for the final battle. The items and gift mechanics do not make any sense. Each item has a little comment on it that "tells" you what it does, but they are not straightforward enough. There is no guide or tutorial on any mechanics other than "match 3" for the battle mechanics. The game also bugs out during special events and if you try to quit and restart from the auto save, it completely skips the event. The way to solve this is if you save before every single interaction. Good luck if you have the patience. Pros: The characters are cutesy and the story is intriguing. That's it. Overall, if I could refund this game, I would. I wish there were a way to refund my time as well.

The characters are very sweet, even if the game is quite buggy from time to time.

Relaxing and chill match-tree game! I really enjoy this, the variety of characters feels natural. Playing this game feels like a breath of fresh air. Love it.
