About Drop Duchy

✦ AI summary

Drop Duchy combines block-dropping puzzle mechanics with strategic deck-building and tower defense, where you place tiles to generate resources and troops that defend your castle against enemy waves across procedurally generated runs. With over 110 unique cards, three distinct factions, and a robust meta-progression system of 100+ missions, every playthrough offers fresh strategic choices and permanent unlocks that deepen your tactical options.

Drop Duchy takes on the iconic geometric puzzle gameplay we all know and love with a fresh perspective: instead of simply clearing lines, you'll be thoughtfully building a realm using pieces of various shapes and types to overcome enemy challenges.
A mix of deckbuilding, puzzle and rogue-lite, the game offers a new gameplay designed to hone your appetite as a block-stacking tactician. Optimization is key to collecting precious resources, protecting your castle, and building your army. Defeat is not the end, though: use the experience gained in previous runs to unlock even more content!
In each round of your run, Drop Duchy offers you a fresh and unique landscape to work with. Place tile pieces as you would in a typical block-dropping game but with a strategic twist: you need to align them to maximize their activation rules, producing maximum resources and units. Selecting the optimal structures to place next to blocks of lush forests, wild rivers or grassy plains is crucial for maximizing your materials use and nurturing a bustling realm. Forming lines grants bonuses, yet the ultimate goal is to pack up the most resources gradually. These resources will be crucial to build up your army bit by bit, ensuring your kingdom is well-protected against the enemy threats. Select your path, gather your troops to outnumber your enemies, and reclaim the regions under their control. But be careful: letting your castle take too much damage can lead to defeat.
Successful battles lead your forces down branching, decision-filled paths in a march to storm the enemy fortress.
If your army falls before capturing the bastion, you can quickly jump back in and try a new strategy, thanks to a cleverly designed gameplay loop. Adapt, conquer, and keep the action moving! Grow in power with a rich deckbuilding system: build and enhance constructions with over 110 unique cards, each offering powerful upgrades and modifiers. Unlock new possibilities when using building or technology cards, each granting new bonus structures to boost soldier recruitment & various other perks. Customize your deck to suit your strategy and optimize your realm’s growth. As you progress on your run, trade with markets or guilds to acquire valuable resources, use them wisely to upgrade your deck, make strategic decisions, and choose your path for the next round. Drop Duchy features a robust meta progression system with over 100 unique misssions! Climb the ranks and unlock various bonuses such as increased resources, new cards or additional health. These missions are intertwined with the three playable factions: The Duchy, The Republic, and The Order, each offering exclusive faction quests that grant faction-specific rewards. Completing these objectives across your runs not only tailors your strategy but also improves your chances of success, ensuring that every playthrough contributes to your long-term progression and victory. An original mix of puzzle gameplay and real-time strategy A brand new game experience with each run thanks to procedural generation Play with 3 Factions: The Duchy, The Order, The Republic Meta progression: over 100 challenges designed to help you through your journey Build the perfect deck with over 110 unique cards An elegant and charming art direction to please your eyes An engaging and ever-evolving soundtrack to please your ears Choose your path between lakes, glades, forests, villages, guilds… and more!

Really cool idea well implemented. Surprising amount of replayability, as each faction feels very different. Lots of fun in short bursts or extended plays.

Great game with new and interesting mechanics, which I havenever seen before.

Tetris is the most solved object this medium owns. Forty years of people building on top of it, and Sleepy Mill found a door nobody had tried: the lines you complete don't disappear. They stay, and they become your land. That single inversion rewrites everything downstream. The blocks are terrain now, woods and rivers and ore, and each one feeds whatever it lands beside. You stop clearing the board and start deciding what the board will be worth to you three turns from here. Then the deck decides what's even allowed in the bag. Every idea in here is old. Every combination is new. That's the harder trick and the rarer one. And it's finished, which is the part nobody applauds. Readable at a glance, tuned, and stitched together so well you can't find the seam between the puzzle, the city and the battle. The design would have carried it on its own. They did the work anyway. Old ideas, new arithmetic, real execution. Most games manage one of the three.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this but its like a rouge like... tetris... "city builder"? alright that last bit might be pushing It. Honestly a whole lot of fun trying to find different ways to break the river build.

Absolutely addictive! Drop Duchy is incredibly fun and easy to get hooked on. The gameplay is satisfying, creative, and keeps you wanting to play just one more round. It’s simple to get into but has enough strategy to keep things interesting. Definitely one of those games where you lose track of time because you’re having so much fun. Highly recommended!

Drop Duchy is a Tetris-like block dropping puzzle game. The main objective is to complete 3 Acts. At the end of each Act, you have to defeat a boss. Defeat 3 bosses and you win. Gameplay-wise, keyboard. General gameplay. Try to complete rows, completed rows give you resources. Resources allow you to upgrade your tech, buildings, slots and buy health. Tiles Tetris tetromino shapes; L, l, I, T, s, etc Terrain Type. Plain, Farm, Forest, Mountain, River, Wastelands. Conclusion, do try Drop Duchy.
PROS
1. Easy Tetris-like Kick A fun way to play Tetris without playing actual Tetris. 2. Strategic Gameplay Interesting.
CONS
1. Combat I did not like having to merge and optimize the different type of units. The mental math is just not rewarding. It takes time to pause and think about a rock-paper-scissor or sword-arrow-axe mechanic which is just annoying. 2. The North's Combat The North's single target attack per target isn't rewarding.
NEUTRAL
1. Tech Tree Fun to upgrade and find new creative combos. However, as you unlock more tech, the more convoluted your options become. This results in lots of rerolling.
