Project X: Light Years brings a classic Amiga-era shoot 'em up concept into a modern setting while maintaining the demanding arcade identity that defined its predecessor. Developed and published by MK_Games under license from Team17 Digital Limited, it serves as an official successor to the original Project X. Rather than relying entirely on nostalgia, the game expands its familiar horizontal shooting formula with modern progression systems, multiple modes, accessibility options, cooperative play, and competitive features. It is clearly aimed at players who appreciate old-school shooters, but its flexible structure also makes the experience more welcoming to newcomers. The story provides a simple reason to return to battle. Decades after humanity's previous confrontation with an alien enemy, the threat has resurfaced in a stronger and more dangerous form. Players once again pilot an advanced spacecraft through hostile regions filled with enemy formations, environmental obstacles, projectiles, and large bosses. Narrative development is not the main attraction, and the game wisely concentrates its attention on combat. Survival requires quick reactions, careful positioning, knowledge…2 found this helpful
Great game! Faithfull creation of a timeless classic! I've just made a review video about the game. You can see the real footage from my Amiga 4000 and 1084 monitor, followed by the modern Light Years version. Hope you like it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FHF4g88TwY2 found this helpful
cant say enough really .. firstly a pumping soundtrack throughout. It immediately took me back to the day i loaded it up on my amiga when I was 15 yrs old lmao I'm now 50 and was almost in tears as it was the most anticipated game of my teens. It was super hard then and even more so now... If you loved it then you will love this.... Plenty of modes to play and achievements to collect. 10/101 found this helpful
If you played the Original, way back in the day and enjoyed it, this is your chance to finally get past the second level... Amiga disk-access noises add wonderfully to the nostalgia :) The game is HARD and very unforgiving, just as the original was. The "Reloaded" career mode lets you play as a roguelite, with aspects of your progress saved between runs. Just so happens to be currenlty my favourite genre of game It can feel a little slow but in this new era of bullet-hells and twitch-based reactions, frankly I rather like it! If you know NOTHING of the original, this is side-scrolling on-rails space shooter with multiple options for ship upgrades. Upgrades last for that run in most of the game modes though Continues and Extra Life lets you pick up 'dropped' upgrades. Thankfully, it doesn't QUITE fit as a bullet-hell game but there is at any time a lot going on and memorising wave patterns is definitely the way to win. The game engine used does not natively support cloud-saves, but the developer has implimented a pseudo-cloud for it - your save is automatically uploaded to a server and if like me you play on multiple devices, you need to remember to 'pull down' the save …1 found this helpful
Just like the good old days, except tons of more content.1 found this helpful
Serious recommendation. I initially had some concerns about the game and the visuals during the early days of development, but the devs have genuinely surprised me with the end result. It looks GORGEOUS (especially with the scanline filter), and plays really solidly - moreso than anything from the larger studios as of late. It's actually a good deal of genuine FUN, - even more than the original which was insanely hard (never saw level 3....). Honestly, if you need a horizonal shmup, this is the one you're looking for. And the title them is by Allister Brimble too, which is suitably lovely. Must buy.1 found this helpful
