About Three Against the Odds

Three Against the Odds is a base defense fantasy roguelike.

"In each cycle of crisis, three heroes shall arise from our people to meet the challenge...always there are three." --- The Wizened One

Yet another magic wielding jerk from another dimension has spoiled an otherwise reasonable existence and banished Frogkind, forcing them to roam the world of Primeva, hunted.

You grew up in this crucible and are now ready to lead your people to conquer your old nemesis.

Travel the world across changing seasons and climates, building up your heroes and settlement as you face wave after wave of enemies until you are ready to return to your homeland and forcibly evict the evil one for good and all.

Roguelike or Roguelite?
  • Turn-based roguelike yet death is not the end. Inspired by the death and deeds of past heroes, two more heroes will rise to follow the first
  • Three separate missions with varying difficulty due to starting conditions
  • Knowledge of bonus providing magical patterns carry over after failed runs

Build Your Character and Your Species
  • Remain a common frog or evolve into 3 additional amphibious species with differing strengths and weaknesses
  • Choose skills from three distinct schools or become a knave and choose a skill from each school
  • 23 Separate Powers
  • Buy, find or craft over 100 unique items
  • Boost your character with the power of gemstones or cash them in for money or magical powers
  • Uncover the secrets of the world of Primeva and learn what seeks to destroy it
  • Defend and Build Your Settlement
Protect and Enhance Your Settlement
  • Light resource management -- stock up on food before you journey to harsh climates or face the winter
  • Workers will gather food, stone, gold and wood and build your settlement
  • Hire additional workers and mercenaries
  • Manage the production of weapons and potions and keep your trade route in tact
Monsters and Mayhem
  • Fight hundreds of different types of monsters spawned by the bordering terrain
  • Risk/Reward--Decide whether to anger additional enemies by attacking Crypts, Snake-Pits, Dungeons or Thieves Dens
  • Face the dreaded behemoths who ignore you and attack your settlement instead
  • Face distinct tribes of enemies as you travel across Primeva
  • From the usual fare to the bizarre - fight shadow spiders, the undead, minotaurs, dragons as well as chicken dragons and disgruntled squirrels
  • Try to avoid the many other perils of the world from fire, lava, clouds of hot steam and poison to hallucination inducing gases and parasites
Take a Break and Do Some Fishing
  • Gather or purchase bait and lures and cast a line
  • Catch panfish, trophy fish or discover allies or monsters below the waves
  • Come on, you have time to pull that bass out of the water before the ethereal eel bites your head off!

Rich deep gameplay, no hand holding, enjoying it alot. Lots of action, enjoying the music, can tell this is a labor of love. Definitely recommend. Well worth the price. In the vein of Caves of Qud, Dwarf Fortress and other such atmospheric rogues that make you part of something bigger, instead of the world revolving around you.

A very interesting take on using traditional roguelike mechanics for something like a Warcraft 3-style hero/RTS hybrid. There's a lot of charm in the extremely low-fi art style and general premise. Good - Love the intro story, fantastic pixel art and direction - Writing is fun and has lots of charm - Got a hearty chuckle at the hero replacement choral aria - I do like the aspect of keeping your upgrade points between fallen heroes. Makes it nice to respec playstyles if one of your heroes didn’t work out the way you planned. Bad - I feel like there should be a more hand-holdy tutorial sequence all the way through a simplified victory. There's a lot going on between cards, crafting, enemies, etc. Other - Intro sequence at the start that has all the movement tooltips and such should also reference the Forsaken Manual (great name) - Aesthetically reminds me of Path of Achra and Rift Wizard to some extent. Though I think some of the game’s systems could be clarified a little better.

Interesting roguelite base-defense game that plays in the same category as games like 'Dwarf Fortress' or 'Rise to Ruins', this one has a lot of charm and personality. It was more interesting than other similar games, mostly because everything is straightforward and you don't spend too much time trying to understand what's going on. The miniature 8-bit graphics and gameplay have a lot of charm, and the weird batracian lore is funny. It has the 'one more run' effect as you constantly improve your outcome. The game is quite rich with lots of lilttle things to discover. A friend of mine recommended it and the game is actually really good. It's the kind of game that will keep you playing and playing for hours without you even realizing. The lore is fun, plenty of secrets and cool things to do, the end becomes a chaotic mess which can be quite fun. I've only beat once playthrough and I feel like I've only scratched 5% of what the game has to offer. Buy it, play it with a nice cup of coffee and be transported back to the good ol' days of no BS gameplay.
