Snakeloop

Snakeloop inverts the classic snake gameplay (eat all food without colliding with yourself) by instead asking you to form a loop with your snake. When you hear that concept, what kinds of puzzles do you imagine? As one might expect, there are one-of and reusable tiles which make your snake longer or shorter; as well as walls and cul-de-sacs. But there are also puzzles where you control multiple snakes at once, and need to turn them all into one loop (by merging them) or multiple loops. The game quickly goes all-in into the latter, and by the ~halfway point, ~all levels require controlling multiple snakes while dodging around obstacles. The game's store description undersells this point; the game is less about turning snakes into loops and more about controlling multiple characters at once. Finally, each level has an optional challenge about completing the puzzle in the minimum number of moves. I really like the puzzle concept, but I'm not at all enamored with the level design. Movement par goals are about the most boring optional challenge one can imagine in puzzle games, since such solutions don't necessarily require any interesting insights, just tedium. Some really tough puzzles that remind me of those linking metal chain puzzles from my childhood. Stretches your brain in novel ways. A little math and observation, and you'll figure it out.

Looks simple, starts simple, and then... Twists your brain! Great twist on the classic snake, some of these are quite tough, especially if you're going for the least amount of moves. I really liked how the game indicates you you did N too many moves, to encourage you to try again. And if you're stuck, just move to another puzzle! You're free to choose which you want to do and which you don't want to do. The aesthetics are nice as well, everything is easy to read, easy to understand and hard to get it right. Exactly what you're looking for in a puzzle-game!

Nice idea to transform a forbiden move in snake into a new gameplay. Nice puzzles, quite difficult at the end.

Snakeloop review 🐍 Hard bite 🔹EXPECTATIONS: a friendly and short puzzle game with a simple but well executed mechanic. 🔹REALITY: a puzzle game that despite its minimal art, presents an extensive amount of difficult levels. 🔶 Snakeloop is inspired by the classic 'Snake', and takes its mechanic of moving a snake over a grid, to create something new. The goal here isn't to avoid the snake colliding with itself, but to get it to bite its own tail, and therefore making a loop. This mechanic carries over throughout the 90 levels it consists on, only aided by a couple of in-level hazards. 🔸 In many cases, this would feel stretched or lacking content, but Snakeloop manages, through a combination of level design and hard difficulty, to not feel repetitive. Wrapped in minimalistic art, it's a mid-hard difficulty game, that only gets harder if you also strive to find each level's optimal solution. If it sounds like you might be up to the challenge, Snakeloop is one that you'll be proud to have achieved. A deceptively difficult puzzle game with a unique idea and clever moments. Not every puzzle is a banger, but the good ones are good.
