Cut That Wire is a multiplayer party game that reimagines the familiar Old Maid card game by combining it with bluffing, social deduction, and unpredictable bomb-defusal mechanics. Developed and published by WakaStudio, the game transforms a simple card-based concept into a fast-paced social experience where every decision can lead to either victory or a spectacular defeat. Rather than focusing on complex mechanics, it encourages players to outthink, deceive, and outlast one another through conversation, observation, and a little bit of luck. Its accessible gameplay makes it easy for newcomers to join, while the constant tension between strategy and chance keeps every match entertaining. The primary game mode revolves around drawing cards, discarding matching pairs, and desperately avoiding the Joker. The player left holding the dreaded card must attempt to defuse a bomb by selecting one of several wires, creating a suspenseful finale that turns an otherwise traditional card game into a dramatic showdown. Played this on release day. This is one of those Get Together and Laugh type games, in the same vein as something like Among Us. The game is fairly simple to learn and play. The game modes on offer are fun. On release day, there were no public lobbies, so you either had to have friends to invite or find people via the game's Discord. Since then, public lobbies have been added and it was a much needed addition. The game had some great updates with new modes and gameplay improvements. The game was and still is a great source of fun, be it with friends or randoms. However, as of posting this review, the player count has, unfortunately, dropped....to zero even. In the last 24hrs, it's had a peak player count of just 6. So, sadly, no public games to join. The game still has an active discord so there is still that avenue to search for people to play with. My sincere suggestion though would be: don't buy the game unless you have people in your friend list to invite. Or, join the discord to gauge the level of interest still for the game.
This was a good buy. Had a chill time playing this with some friends. Once you understand the rules this is one to keep coming back to.
