Dawn Awaits (2025)

Dawn Awaits is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This platformer is particularly badly made, with clunky controls and godawful, unforgiving and yet also inaccurately placed hitboxes. It's one of those platformers that uses the "move two characters with the same controls" gimmicks, and this is the worst implementation of that I've seen. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. Super cute game with compelling art, music, and story! The game mechanics are very fun and the whole experience is very enjoyable.

a short and sweet game about navigating trauma--really liked how they tied in the story to the platforming elements! The platforming itself is a bit challenging with some pretty tight jumps, but solving the puzzles and getting to the end is very rewarding! the journal entries are super pretty!! feeling very inspired for my own journal lolol. overall a very cute game with interesting ideas!

I really love the storyline and the design of dual characters in this game! The artwork and sound effects build up tension and reveal a heart broken story gradually.
