Contrast is a 13 year old Xbox 360 ported puzzle platformer designed for the X-box and ported to PC as an afterthought. It's an interesting hybrid playformer that uses a gimmick where you can transfer your 3D self into your shadow, which creates a short 2D platformer experience baked into the larger 3D platformer. It's a narrative driven story where you're the imaginary friend of a young girl with an estranged father and a cabaret singing mother in middle Europe. The narrative follows the young girls experience of sneaking out of home in the evening to listen to her mother and discovering unusual truths about her father and his money making schemes... well, I won't spoil it. It's a serviceable plot but not winning any awards. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The platforming is clunky and imprecise due to the Xbox 360 heritage for the game. While you have mouselook for the most part, camera angles are often unpleasant, a console hangover. Because this is designed for consoles, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the inferior console gamin…4 found this helpful
Contrast is a short, but sweet game that takes you through the story of a broken family trying to get put back together by the very cause of its demise. While its gameplay is admittedly pretty janky at times, the novelty of its innovation is still fun to engage with, and it's all wrapped up in an elegant and lovingly crafted atmosphere that's nice to be a part of.1 found this helpful
It's a little frustrating sometimes it lags and you have to do everything again from last save. But otherwise it's very cute and the atmosphere is great. The story is very engaging. Would reccomend if you like sth relaxing.1 found this helpful
Literally one of the best games I've ever played. The storyline is amazing, and the puzzle aspect is unique. I feel that this is a very underrated game and should gain more attention. It's very quick to complete, but it's also a little buggy sometimes.1 found this helpful
Gameplay wise the game heavily relies on platforming (even for puzzle soliving) which is not a problem, the problem is that it never explains the story clearly, I get it that you don't want to put everything on the face / in front of player but i still fell that the game was very restrictive about what it wants to tell, any other things like what my character is, why only i've a this unique power, things like this it completly ignores and if you are intrested you've to buy The Collector's Edition. I assum that developers were planning to continue the story in it's sequel but that never happned. TL;DR: Good game, but it never truly challenges the player in a way like some other more successful games in this genre do. At this point, I think the only reason to play this is for it's story, but even in that it left me in the middle of the road with an intresting concept and alot of questions than answers.
Light and dark collide Silhouettes define the truth Meaning needs both sides
