Contrast (2013)

Short and honestly super sweet. I kinda loved the whole package that Contrast is. It's essentially a 3D/2D platformer and puzzle game, and you make use of Dawn's shadow shifting abilities to go into 2D mode for sections. But the amount of character that Contrast has, it doesn't feel like it's specifically trying to be any type of game, but just telling a story with a lot of heart. The story being about a girl who brings together her family with the help of her imaginary friend is really sweet with the way it's done. I kinda love the subversion of Didi's dad being someone who constantly makes bad decisions, gets in trouble and isn't a good fit for a father, but he does make an effort to sort things out by the end even if he needs some help. it's a very optimistic story and I really like that. The rest of the lore is honestly pretty cool and the stuff about Dawn and the things you find out in the lighthouse had me genuinely curious and interested. I really liked the gameplay. The platforming and puzzles were fun to solve even especially because by the end you need to think about them a bit. Childhood game, on of the best PS4 start games ever

Unique shadow-based puzzle mechanics, interesting story, excellent noir vibe, minor gameplay lacks, good 3 hour playthrough My rating is 4\5

The game has a glitch in Act II, when interacting with the helm, the character is just stuck after spinning the helm and there is no way to get out of interacting mode. No button works whatsoever.

Picked this up on my PS3 years ago and loved it. Was happy to nab it for PC too and give it a play. Completed it in a few hours and have it marked for replay! :D Played smooth. Decent challenge for some puzzles. I didn't get all the collectables in the run so some are decently hidden. And a couple of the achievements sound like a good reason to go back in and search.
