Too Well Hidden

Too Well Hidden takes the familiar childhood game of hide and seek and reshapes it into a compact psychological horror experience where curiosity gradually gives way to dread. Developed and published by Runebox Studio, the story revolves around sisters Ana and Clara, who have made a habit of playing hide and seek around their family home at night. Their games are recorded using their mother's VHS camera, giving what should be an innocent family memory a distinctive found-footage quality. During one particular night, however, Ana finds a hiding place so effective that Clara's search begins to feel increasingly abnormal. The simplicity of the premise is one of the game's greatest strengths. Searching for another person naturally encourages players to examine bedrooms, hallways, corners, doorways, and other spaces that would otherwise seem completely ordinary. As the search continues, the comfortable atmosphere of the home starts to deteriorate. Small disturbances and unexplained events gradually suggest that something else may be present. I'd have to play this one again off stream and figure some things out. The story wasn't explained well at the start and some of the story line took too long to learn. There were some instructions that were not explained well at all and it led to me being confused on what to do next. There was also a point where it brought me to the main menu to continue and I did not understand why. The game has potential and I'm willing to give it another try.

The atmosphere is excellent from the start, and the VHS presentation does a lot of heavy lifting without ever feeling like a gimmick. The grain, camera movement, lighting, and overall visual style make the house feel genuinely uncomfortable to explore. What I liked most is how original the central idea feels. Taking something as simple as hide-and-seek and turning it into a slow, tense horror experience works incredibly well. The game understands that you do not always need constant jumpscares to be scary—the anticipation of finding something is often worse than actually finding it. It is short, but focused, atmospheric, and genuinely unsettling. One of the stronger indie horror games I have played recently.
